Truck gets stuck on train tracks, train plows into it

Brian D'Amico photographed the aftermath of the afternoon crash at a Braintree train crossing where a truck got stuck just as a train approached. The truck driver was able to jump to safety; only a few minor injuries on the train.

Yikes
After the horror that happened in NY yesterday, I'm glad this one was relatively minor.
No kidding!
I almost had this happen to me on Monday. Luckily I stopped a train with exactly two minutes to spare. Then the Metro-North incident yesterday and now this today have me really thankful for everyone involved in the chain of communication so that we were able to avoid an incident.
Winter makes grade crossings pretty sketchy.
Yes, that is a very good thing indeed
Fortunately, diesel fuel doesn't ignite as readily as gasoline does. And, judging from the extent of cab damage, and the fact the trailer was relatively unscathed, it was obviously a much lower speed impact than the Metro-North collision was.
The Boston Globe says one
The Boston Globe says one person reported minor injuries and four "back discomfort." More details in that story, too.
Insufficient turning radius from snowbanks
The driver reported to media that there was insufficient turning radius for him to complete a sharp turn at the crossing and he was attempting to back up when his truck got stuck.
Meanwhile, MassDOT and DCR have been removing slip lanes and making turns too tight in all weather for years. Here, such bad geometry could have cost lives.
Not the first time this very
Not the first time this very train crossing has claimed a tractor trailer exiting the industrial park in the snow

Slip Lanes
In other parts of the country, they work fine.
Around here? Taking a turn at speed without yielding means accidents. Lots of accidents.
Massholes see them and think that htey don't have to look out for other road users with the right of way. Sorry, way it is.
They got rid of the one at the commuter rail station in Medford when a truck took it at speed, being efficient, and nearly ended up being punted into the Dunks, efficiently, at speed, by a train.
I saw a bus yesterday try to
I saw a bus yesterday try to make a turn onto its regular street and almost clip a car in the process. Traffic has been horrendous this week. It's ridiculous, two snowstorms, and the city is in gridlock. There's more snow coming, you know...
Well ,thats the entance
Well ,thats the entance street to an industrial park. It should have been laid out better with commercial ( 53' trailers with sleeper cab power ) as its model for in and out. It's a tough right turn out of there under any circumstances.
