True love: Charlie Baker, David Portnoy kiss, make up and snuggle after first spat

You may have seen the video of Gov. Baker doing the ice-water challenge yesterday. You may have noticed the Free Brady T-shirt he was wearing.

What you might not have seen was the seething anger that unleashed at Barstool Sports, where founder David Portnoy and his toadies unleashed a torrent of angry tweets at both Baker and Pete Frates - the guy who came up with the whole ice challenge, the guy who himself has ALS and who can no longer walk, speak or even swallow - because the Free Brady shirt was a knock off, not one of Barstool's own line of Free Brady shirts. How dare the governor do that when Barstool is local and Portnoy says he came up with the idea?!? Even worse: How could Frates possibly have let the governor do that?

But don't worry: Boston Magazine, which captured all the hate tweets, reports Baker apologized and he and Portnoy are now planning to share an ice-cream soda or something again.

Like the job UHub is doing? Consider a contribution. Thanks!

barstool and its readers have raised a few million dollars over the past couple of years for good causes.

You're obviously taking his words to heart. Portnoy knows Pete and has raised 10's of thousand of dollars for ALS.

How much has UHub raised for ALS, or any cause for that matter.

Barstool has been raising money in Petes name for three year, you......... ZERO

It's called Google.

He knows the family. It's also called sarcasm.

When are you going to start featuring big tits on your splash page as a way of making money for charity? What's wrong with you?

Geez, it's like you report on shootings no one cares about for the money!!!

So ya, money is probably the reason why he continues.

and see the Architectural Digest story on the ever expanding Gaffin compound that all of those UHub dollars has provided in Roslindale. I particularly hope they include shots of the infinity pool! Why, I recently took a private jet and when I told the pilot I was from Boston, he specifically asked if I knew the Gaffins. Imagine that!

Never mind 'Architectural Digest'. Tell me more about the 'tits' thing.

How could no one here make the obvious reference to Portnoy's Complaint?

"Hate tweets"? He was joking, and knows Pete Frates quite well. Why didn't you post Frates' response?

up

And I realize he's done a lot for the ALS cause.

But all those tweets yesterday? Seemed to be a bit of bitterness there.

If you study hard and eat your peas, maybe someday you can become as big an asshole as Portnoy is.

your Op-Ed was ill informed and in poor taste. The guy knows the family personally, that why he was giving them crap.

He makes fun of himself regularly for peddling t-shirts. Hence the joke/sarcasm.

But hey when you get an opportunity to bash the Gov'na don't hold back. It's you duty as a liberal right.

UHUB went from a good Boston news site to Adam's personal Op-Ed website. Do you tho, Gaffin.

Tired of how Adam reports on things in his personal weblog? Try this web page instead!

Does that website contain SwirlyGrrl's obnoxious, holier than thou, self-aggrandizing comments?

You forgot the part about demanding citations for everyone else's assertions while failing to provide any scholarly sources for her own.

Please list specific instances and links. All you have to do is get a log in and start mining.

In other words, prove it.

I have a Bissell rug cleaner. Is it possible to run it on 'spray water/soap mix' with the brushabrushabrusha thing going without the vacuum part removing the solution? My office rug is really dirty and I can't find much on line.

You can kind of do it if you tilt the handpiece correctly, but honestly I just spray the crap out of the spot and turn it off to scrub.

If I cite a law professor's news aggregate website, where he really doesn't do much actual writing but puts out a bunch of peer papers and articles, and I reference to them, does that not count?

http://taxprof.typepad.com/taxprof_blog/

"A Member of the Law Professor Blogs Network"

See, it's a blog, but not too much like AG's blog here. He posts stuff, there are comments, but it's the content that is important. Rather focused on tax law and stuff like that.

Oh. OH. Shit. Nevermind. I just found out that Pepperdine is a Christian school...

but at the very least I believe Swirly is a donator to this site, are you? In my eyes that gives her free reign to say whatever she wants.

One can't always depend on the generosity of sexist cretins who worship cheaters that wouldn't piss on them to put them out if they were on fire to put food on the table.

It can contain what ever you want it to contain. All you have to do is sign up for your own account. You can even block me from reading it, if you so choose.

But that would be like work or something. Too hard and intellectual! Much easier to spew insults, make lazy assumptions, and whine about content in somebody else's comment section, isn't it?

i obviously read and appreciate what he does, but he's 100% wrong in this situation.

I grew up here and know that we have NERVER had a blog or paper that covers local issues like Adam does.

For which I'm truly grateful, but when you're wrong you're wrong.

Adam will be the next to apologize after Baker to Portnoy. (See how sarcasm works)

And Adam thank you for what you do, even if your so far left Stalin would think you're crazy.

He's not.

I merely pointed out that many of those who whine about the content, criticize the reporting and spew insults at other commenters are welcome to start their own blog and put in the work.

I'm fine with good old Blogger and it has many in house SEO advantages. There's great design flexibility and it works flawlessly with the rest of the content system in the Google suite.

At this point, though, I spend more time just making posts on Plus and uploading content at You Tube..

I even got Mike Ball set up with instant reshare as an acknowledgement for his years of service to a community.

That shirt that the Gov was wearing was bought from me. It is not a knockoff. It is a different Free Brady shirt. That tool Portnoy didn't come up with it first and he was not kidding when he demanded an apology. He may raise money for charities as do many of us. He's still a dickhead and that was a dickhead move.

He knows exactly who made that Free Brady shirt and he never called the company out ONCE because he knows they would make a fool out of him. He has stolen countless designs from Sully's and I love Boston Sports and others and he's a hypocrite for doing that.

The Gov was a fool for apologizing or even acknowledging it and making it a story. Shameless self promotion is a talent and Bar Stool made it happen. But screw him anyway for being a liar.

But we're still selling tons of them because this design blows away that other crappy one.
That's why the Governor bought it. It looked great on him.

By the way, while we're complaining about the shirt, I wonder if Shepard Fairey is getting his fair share of the proceeds for ripping off his style.

Shepard is doing fine I'm sure. That design has been (Homaged) more times than I can count. Heck my face on Twitter used an app that made me one.

BUT we are selling the Best Free Brady Shirt at one of our kiosks in front of the new Walgreens (Famine Memorial) spot for only $10. I'll be there all day tomorrow myself. (Thursday)

Have a wonderful day all.

It's obvious you don't read Barstool or follow Portnoy on Twitter because it was plainly obvious that it was a joke.

up
Voting closed 0

No, it was plainly obvious that this was nothing more than a publicity grab. Boston Magazine and worse, The Guvnah, just played along.

Between ripping off design ideas from Reddit to outright intellectual property theft of motion picture studios, Portnoy's next original idea will be his first.

up
Voting closed 0

Every idea he rips off he jokingly plays off as his own. See "Make America Great Again" hats.

I'm sorry that lack the skills to detect and understand sarcasm.

Sarcasm: yours for the low low price of $25!

If you mean that everything that toadstool does is, inherently, a joke, then fine.

The best thing about barstool sports is how easy their clothing makes it to spot a douchebag.
