Two chain coffee places proposed for the South End, but neither is a Dunkin' Donuts, so we're cool, right?

The Boston Licensing Board next week hears requests for food-serving licenses for a Peet's proposed for 310 Harrison Ave. and a Caffe Nero planned for 53 Union Park.

In 2011, you may recall, South Enders successfully fought off a Dunkin' Donuts proposed for Tremont Street by arguing, among other things, that the South End already had too many food-serving establishments.

The board's hearings begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in its eighth-floor hearing room in City Hall.

Dunkins is better for saving money. Plus ( don't know about the other two), Dunkin's is a giving company. They donate not just product but personnel, money and time to various non profits locally.

But at least Peet's has good coffee. Much better than that swill they pass off as coffee at DD's.

owned by the Carlyle Group. Who you may remember as having made all of their early money killing people in war, now they kill people with really, really bad food. Very charitable.

$2 and change for their largest cup-sized coffee, last time I checked (which admittedly was a while ago).

Don't know how that's saving money.

not as good as it used to be.

The coffee is terrible and the food is worse. Was there some time when that was not the case?

Quality has definitely taken a downturn over the years. They used to make the donuts right in most of the stores and they were much better. I used to drink iced coffee and it was good but now it seems like I pay $2.75 for a cup of ice water that has a mild coffee taste. it's terrible.

The condo owners who fought so hard to prevent a Dunkin' Donuts moving in downstairs are probably feeling nervous right now. The art gallery that moved in below them is moving to Harrison Ave., so the property will be vacant once again.

I'm curious to see what type of business can meet the approval of the building's condo owners and afford operate in that space. I'm surprised the gallery lasted as long as it has.

The Canada Goose/Lululemon crowd simply will not be seen in a Dunkin Donuts. Too downmarket for them. Of course these are the same very classy people who I have repeatedly seen sampling items off the salad bar - with their fingers! - at the new very classy South End Whole Foods.

Ah, I was unaware that only people from the South End were allowed in that Whole Foods.

Stop generalizing an entire neighborhood based on your outside perceptions.

Freakin' gross. Why anybody willingly consumes food from these public feeding troughs is beyond me.

Dunkins is more of a grab and go place... the seating is made so uncomfortae that you don't want to sit down for more than a minute. These other coffee shops at least try to make you feel welcome to sit and enjoy your coffee for 5 minutes. Regardless, I'd hate to see South End overrun with chains... it'll ruin whatever charm and character the neighborhood has left.

just saw a tv ad for new Dunkin Donuts Chips Ahoy flavored coffee. are 5 year olds drinking this crap? I don't blame any neighbor for not wanting yet another DD's. If you're that desperate for flavored coffee, just walk 4 blocks in any given direction and I'm sure you'll find a Dunkies.

I wouldn't want Dunkin Donuts fans to get the wrong idea that they can't get their favorite donuts and coffee in the South End. There are Dunkin Donuts at 434 Mass Ave (at the corner of Columbus Ave), 616 Mass Ave (at the corner of Washington St), and 1138 Washington St (at the corner of East Berkeley). There is also (apparently?) one inside the Boston Medical Center.

Everyone have a great day!

One of the many dangers of oblique attacks. The D.D. franchisee could have (sorry) grounds if they approve these.
