I was watching the History Channel's Sons of Liberty and the Brits were just about to launch the assault on Breed's Hill as I saw this post. Very interesting to think about what Joseph Warren, who is featured prominently (with artistic license in the show), and the other patriots would think about kids sledding down what was once a battlefield and the success of their exploits. I think they'd be happy - and proud. Not bad for a bunch of "rabble-rousers"!

I wouldn't be surprised if they sledded down it themselves as kids. This is what they fought for.

Sledding Boston kids took their right to do so directly to General Gage, who assured them that they could continue to sled the common unmolested by British soldiers.

In winter it was not unusual for the boys to bring their sleds to school with them and, as soon as school was over, to coast down Beacon Street, across Tremont, and down School Street. - (From BLS website under BLS History)

with an admonition that those sledders should get off the street and out of the way of emergency vehicles and plows?
