Who'd steal a framed photo off the wall of a movie theater?

Missing from the Coolidge Corner Theater in Brookline

The Coolidge Corner Theatre reports somebody stole a photo off the wall of its basement lobby. But not just any photo:

The photo is of the graffiti artists from the movie WILD STYLE when they were here at the Coolidge decorating the alley wall, and is an important piece of our history. The picture is a color photo in a black frame with a white mat, about 20" x 22".

They add:

The Coolidge Corner Theatre would like this picture returned, no questions asked. Any information leading to its recovery will be appreciated. Please email Theatre Operations Director Andrew Thompson with any information at [email protected]

The Coolidge isn't just another Regal/AMC outpost. It's been around since the 30's and airs some of the best on-screen films and live event rebroadcasts. They don't take the up-turned nose approach to that mission either. It's not all documentaries and foreign films so deep they're up their own ass. I've watched Bad Santa there (comedy gold), Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (epic fighting love story), and a rebroadcast of War Horse from London (live theater with puppetry), and a ton of other great shows over the years. You can drink at the movies. Until recently with the growth of "premium theaters" that just wasn't even heard of. And you can do it without paying $20 for a ticket (I'm looking at you "premium theaters").

Why would you go to the Coolidge and then vandalize it? It'd be like going to Fenway and then deciding to etch your name into the back of the seat in front of you. Just no respect for a time-tested institution that's beloved by pretty much everyone.

I love the Coolidge, their midnight movies, in particular. In going to those, I have noticed there are many who show up already drunk, no clue what the movie is, just to be drunken assholes in a movie theater. Not everyone is like that, of course. But it has happened often enough that I question going when I see one of my favorites on the midnight schedule. I wonder when this theft occurred, the post says over the weekend so I would not be surprised if it was one of the people I've described.

Then I hope that when they sober up, they realize the mistake they've made and restore what damage has been done by sending back the picture.
