World-class article announces Boston's emergence as world class

The Globe, a world-class newspaper if ever there were one (its very name, after all, rather self evidently declares that) ran a world-class piece today in which our world-class luminaries declare that the Olympics thing proves Boston has finally arrived as a world-class city that ranks right up there with other world-class cities, because, after all, we're world class!

In case that didn't quite sink in, the Globe and the world-class entertainers and politicians it quotes cannot stress just how world class Boston has become and that the rest of the world damn well better sit up and take notice of how world class this truly world class city is, because after certain decades we'd all just rather forget, Boston is now world class, in a world class way that really reflects how world class the Hub of the Frickin' Universe has become. That's right, baby, we're world class!

For the residents of said world class city to be trusted to act like adults around alcohol.

So no standing outside a bar/restaurant with a cigarette and beer like the rest of the world class cities.

And make sure you are home in bed by 2am.

What are youz, an alcoholic? Why don't you drive to the packy, get ya booze, drive home, and drink in private, like decent folks? We got kids here, they might see you with the beer and cigarette! Before you know it, they'll be drinking and smoking, slamming heroin! Have some self respect!

I get all my cigs and beer at Jackie's Packie.

If that's not world class enough for you, I don't know what is.

It runs north to south (In order) from Amesbury via Andover, Rockport, Bedford, Nahant, South Boston, Wellsley, Billerica, South Hadley, Weymouth, North Adams, Westfield, Lowell, Fall River and Newburyport before ending in Chatham.

Article says, regarding Jimmy Tingle:

(H)e wouldn't mind if more businesses stayed open late — something, he joked, the Games might change. “If the Olympics come, a lot of these people will be jet-lagged, so they’ll have to keep the restaurants open all night..."

Quick Wikipedia search shows that bars were forced to close between 1-3 AM in China during the last Olympics, as a security measure.

And, compared to the three other US cities in the running for the 2024 Olympics, San Francisco and Los Angeles bars close at 2 AM; DC bars close at 3 AM.

If they are 2009 vintage, adopted from a shelter/center, I may very well have their Mom!

They're a couple of years older than that. Their mother, Loretta, abandoned the kittens in the basement of my friend's house down in Wareham. His Pinehurst Beach neighborhood seems to have dozens of black and white cats.

World-class, I tell you!

just like that city where people had to punch through stuck doors, drink brown water, use tandem toilets, and feed packs of stray dogs wandering around the street. Or that other world class city that had the other Olympics, where people have to wear military-grade gas masks in order to breathe outside due to the pollution.

If Olympics = World Class City, World Class City is a meaningless designation that Boston should not want.

And what does "World Class" mean to society?

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_city

We're ranked alpha-minus in a very formal "global city" set of characteristics, so the article picked chose a purposely vague term "world city"?

Nice to see a Human Sexual Response ref first thing Sunday AM. Too bad no one considered "Jackie Onassis" for state song.

Give the Olympic hostility a break

This isn't me being hostile towards the Olympics (for a change); it's me having had enough with the endless world-class debate over whether we're world class.

But, yes, the two are linked. I have a Google News alert set up for

"world class" boston

And it used to get a hit once every couple of weeks or so. Immediately after the USOC announcement, it skyrocketed to like 20 a day. Now it's down to 2 a day.

No one wants it.

Well, maybe Mahty, John Fish and some other connected crooks/pols.

It's going to be an unmitigated disaster.

I've learned how to say "fuck this shit" in 6 languages for world class hostility thank you very much.
