Broken signals shut South Station; passengers stew in frustration

UPDATE: Amtrak got the signals working again around 2 p.m.

Around 8:45 a.m., the T announced: "Due to a signal problem, South Side trains cannot arrive to/depart from South Station." Again.

The T blamed Amtrak for the problems. Again.

Rosie would have come in last instead of first if she rode the 'T' to the Marathon on Monday.

Instead of it just being "Tower 1" this time it is the entire Amtrak dispatch system software that controls Boston to New Haven, CT on the Amtrak "Northeast Corridor." So they have crews in the field manually operating all the switches on that stretch.

Reason it affects all South Side lines is because Tower 1 is included in the giant list of interlockings affected, and Tower 1 is the choke point that every line passes through to get into South Station.

Not good.
