Charlestown tough guy gets two years in jail for refusing to tell grand jury what he knows about teen's murder

A Charlestown man was sentenced to two years in jail yesterday after pleading guilty to contempt of court related to the investigation into the shooting death of Ryan Morrissey on Main Street in November, 2014, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Daniel Goggin, 21, initially pleaded the Fifth when called before a Suffolk County grand jury investigating the shooting, which also injured a friend of Morrissey's. A judge then granted Goggin immunity from any criminal charges, which would invalidate his Fifth Amendment right, but he again refused to testify, twice. According to the DA's office:

As a result of his refusal to testify, Judge Elizabeth Fahey ordered Goggin held in civil contempt until such time as he testified or the grand jury investigation came to a close. Prosecutors subsequently indicted him for criminal contempt.

This past March, police charged three men for the shootings. They now await trial for first-degree murder.

Did we ever hear about a motive for this? Seems like he was a good kid and was not the intended target.

You never rat on your friends.

Friends are overrated! I wish Whitey Bulger ratted. It would have been one hell of a list judges, cops, and politicians some retired and dead and some still working.

None of them would have got indicted. In fact they probably would have all turned on Whitey and sent HIM to prison. He knew what he was doing. He got to live the vast majority of his life as a free man while doing things most of us could only dream about...or have nightmares about.

Ummmm...seriously??
You "wish" Whitey had ratted????....Whitey Bulger was one of the single biggest rats in the history of criminal justice and law enforcement. He would have ratted out his brother Billy if he had to.

After all, he ratted out EVERYONE else.
