The roof of Random Hall, a four-story MIT building being renovated at 282 Mass. Ave. burst into flames around 3 p.m. The fire went to two alarms before being brought under control.

I wonder if this is arson or if it's truly random.

I know that MIT has been trying to close its older dorms, despite (or because of) their affordability to people who struggle financially and mess up their special 4-year stats, but ...

As an MIT alum, how do you feel about the administration attempting to close Senior House and other older dorms for tayloristic reasons?

As the student Fire Marshall for Random Hall 1977-1981, I am not happy with this. Whoever is Fire Marshall now is not doing their job.

Thinking back, Norm did a damn good job making sure the place was still standing for four years (well, I was only there for three of them.) And it's somewhat amazing that it's *still* standing...

Wow...Random House is still in existence? It was opened when I was a student in the early 1970s as a temporary overflow facility. Apparently it is "temporary" in the same manner as a temporary tax!
