Hand-carved Charlestown welcome sign stolen, residents wonder if they should blame punk-ass Allston college students

The Charlestown Patriot-Bridge reports the sign, way nicer than those generic blue oval things in the rest of the city, disappeared from the median strip in Thompson Square recently, and some residents "fear it could be hanging in a dorm room somewhere in Allston or gracing the living room of a person bent on getting a souvenir from the Town."

Just like that Sean Penn character. Typical.

I hope that they are looking on e-bay - it is probably headed for some baby boomer's ultra lounge and mancave basement bar somewhere in California or Texas.

If you really feel that way about Charlestown and are not just being obnoxious for the sake of it, could you keep it to yourself?

why? based on the litany of experiences i've had there over the years, i'd say its a fairly valid opinion. why not share it? because it conflicts with some people's world views?

is this a safe space for those that are easily offended by the reality of charlestown- as i've experienced it? hang out with some longshoremen, see how long you sing that tune lmao

it seems like i've expressed little more than the flip side of the coin, considering how 'they' seem to feel about allston. i would suggest that those who shroud themselves in fragility re: their neighborhood shouldn't be so quick to cast stones at others. despite how rat or student infested they may be. (we'll pretend for the sake of this post that a large number of students is a bad thing)

I assumed that it was taken down during construction and it probably was.

It is probably gracing the wall behind the bar of a construction supervisor's "rumpus room" in Wilmington or Lynnfield.

As with the Lions, the excuse will be "but I just saved it ... It was supposed to be thrown away".

...dorms in Allston?

When I was in college in Boston most undergraduates didn't even know where Cambridge was, let alone Charlestown. It's wishful thinking that some Junior at BC living six people to a four bedroom apartment decide to steal a nice looking Charlestown sign.

Would anybody from BC even be caught dead in Allston, except maybe to run around screaming "Sucks to BU!"

and all those green trains look the same

What's the only thing BU has that BC doesn't?

A world-class university at the other end of Commonwealth Avenue.

I'm pretty sure BU has more football wins too....and they don't even have a football team.

BC Sucks.

When I worked at BU, I registered the hostname "suxto", and had it for about a year before someone from networking put two and two together.

In the morning, when they are deflated, they are creepier than when that one-eyed minion pops up slowly out of the Christmas tree!
