Jason Kaplan happened to be at Copley outbound around 1:20 p.m. J. Tammaro reports the fire was preceded by "a ton of sparks."

Overheated brake resistors. I would assume the heat and flames subsided once they dropped the pantograph and cut power to the car. Tunnel vent fans should clear the smoke if they were turned on.

I pretty much feel someone is going to have to die or be seriously injuried before they do something about the transit system.

I'm pulling a Costanza and getting the f out.
Seriously though I would be out of there so fast.
I'm dubious about tunnel vent fans. I've seen it get smoky in that very spot and it did not seem to be clearing out. I cleared out.

I'd honestly help anyone I saw who needed it, esp young elderly or handicapped but able bodied younger women?

People are so self absorbed and device-focused the safest thing to do is just get away from them and any danger. Im not trampling anyone but honestly plenty of people I see on T look like their own worst enemy.

Service was delayed for about 15 minutes. MBTA employee cut power to the car (dropped the pantograph) and hit the open flames on the resiistor with a blast from an extinguisher. Fire Dept arrived and spent a couple of minutes to confirm the resistors had cooled down, train was then allowed to moved. Vent fans were turned on as soon as call of smoke was reported. Kudos to MBTA staff for doing their job well.
