They should have delayed left turn arrows for traffic turning left there from both directions.

I think it's safe to say the traffic nightmare protesters insisted was imminent hasnt materialized. And the final result is going to be a VAST improvement over what was there.

Cars are bumper-to-bumper, barely moving up South & Washington Sts., during rush hour. And, God help you, if you're on a bike.

I avoid that area, if at all possible, as I'm sure many other locals do as well.

They must be close to opening the vast stretches of asphalt that have been blocked off all winter, which would double the capacity of Washington Street and make that intersection a lot better. And I ride my bike through there frequently with no problems, although lately I've been detouring over Ukraine Way and Hyde Park Ave. instead, it's a little better. I wish we could shoot the tires of double-parkers though. :)

I believe they have 5 or 6 guys working on the whole project, so Washington Street upper should be done by 2018.

Meanwhile, the new busway construction is going strong, and by that I mean that they had to block the old T employee parking lot after people said "screw it" and began parking there again. I think the good thing is that they demolished the busway canopy when they did, since it did leak a little bit when it rained. Thankfully, we don't have to deal with that anymore.

The biking is a nightmare but it was pretty damn awful before and I'm completely confident that the finished project will be a vast improvement.

try picking your kids up from school in that neighborhood....it's a constant source of stress for me when I'm trying to get there on time and am sitting in bumper to bumper traffic..... it's kind of a disaster.

This area is a traffic nightmare during rush hour. None of the lights are timed correctly, there is a complete disregard for any traffic laws and it is basically a free for all. I understand there is construction going on and traffic is to be expected. However, blocking the box and causing gridlock is ridiculous. Not to mention people not caring about pedestrian walk signals. I work in this area and have almost been hit numerous times walking and driving through here.

This intersection is terrible for all road users. I'm surprised there aren't more collisions or injuries, given the volume.

It is impossible for buses to make the turn leaving the station without causing gridlock. Can anyone explain why transit police or inspectors can't direct traffic during rush hours? Is it because Boston Police won't let them because of jurisdictional issues?

The Arborway is State Police jurisdiction. I have wondered the same thing, a police traffic detail for a couple hours a night would be a big help. That or enforce the fine for causing gridlock. What is it $100? That's incentive to not do it and generates revenue for the state.

Why don't they build an overpass over that intersection to improve the flow of traffic?

If this was still the major east-west highway to the Cape like it was in the 30s, we probably would.
