It wouldn't be spring without a brush fire in Stony Brook Reservation

Boston firefighters are in Stony Brook Reservation for what has turned into a three-alarm brush fire, along the George Wright Golf Course, not too far from the parking lot across from the baseball field.

BFD has requested water-tank brush-fire trucks from DCR because both of Boston's trucks are involved with the Marathon.

Every one of these brush fires starts with a match, and most likely a flung cigarette. Smokers, dispose of your matches and butts responsibly. The world is not your ashtray.

Forest Fires do occur naturally, and can actually be beneficial to the ecosystem.

But yeah, matches, tobacco products, campfires, and the like should be handled carefully, especially in springtime when the brush is extra dry.

I didn't think any was expected ...

He did leave out one potential cause: sparks from dirtbikes. Gotta put that in the mix, too.

To be honest, my vote would be with carelessly discarded smoking materials. Who uses matches nowadays? Still, fires break out at this time of year at the Blue Hill Reservation in places people rarely visit, so natural causes should be mentioned.

Or a car with a hot catalytic converter parking on dried leaves or grass.

Started too far into the woods for a car to be parked there. Plus, the only gate in was locked - firefighters had to use their trusty bolt cutter to get in.

There are also a lot of campfire rings in the Stony Brook, especially along the golf course, where kids from Stonybrook Commons hang out.

After looking at the helicopter shot, it looks like this was in the ledges above Turtle Pond. Way more likely to be the hippie/druggie types who hang around the pond and build bonfires to cook over than the kids who hang out by the golf course.
