It's gotta be the shoes

Some people wait in ridiculous lines for Apple products, or Black Friday specials at Best Buy. And some people, as Jed Hresko found around 6 p.m. in Downtown Crossing, are willing to wait overnight for Jordan 1 sneakers, which go on sale at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Amazing Marketing
Michael Jordan hasn't played in the NBA in decades but he still sells shoes year after year? I find that amzing!
well
he stopped playing in 2003. and he has been involved as an executive and or owner both prior to and since.
its not like henry ford stopped selling cars when he died, jordan is a brand like any other.
Same thing happens
at local malls (at least the ones with a Foot Locker) on release days. There's a whole subculture of "sneakerheads" out there who collect/sell high end sneakers. There are websites devoted to posting release schedules. It's pretty insane. Would make a great documentary in the right hands.
