JP neighborhood to get speed bumps, street art

The Jamaica Plain Gazette reports the city will be installing speed bumps in the Stonybrook area to get drivers to slow the hell down - and while they're slowing down, they can look at some of the street art the streets will also be getting.

I think we discussed this on UHub in the past-- Brookside residents, including me at one time, begged the city for speed bumps and were told that the city was not going to put them in because reasons. People fly between Boylston and Green. This is great news.

not the T-Stop.

This is the Williams, Rossmore, & Brookley neighborhood.

I wouldn't be averse them to being a more frequent site around JP though, people cruise way too fast on small streets with many bikers and pedestrians around.

About time indeed. I live near this area and am glad they are starting to do the bare minimum to prevent maniac drivers from brutally killing more people. They put up more visible crosswalk signs recently and some drivers actually follow the law now and let people cross the street. Many still speed through, but its an improvement!

Many places in SoBo need speed bumps.

People speed around here like its a race track.

Carolina Av., the continuation of Williams, also needs a speed bump as it curves just beyond the SW Corridor. The street is narrow, inclined and has a fairly short but sudden curve. Massholes regularly speed up the street because they know that after the curve it's a straight road to South St. That there are kids, people walking their pets and a narrow lane the entire way is irrelevant.

But the law of unintended consequences may kick in. The people who like harrassing resident with their ugly sounding boom boom speakers to shake houses will have to slow down thus providing residents with even more of their aural explosions.
