Man found at South Station with underage teen gets 10 years for transporting a minor across state lines

Jason Michael Wolf, 31, of Washington, DC. was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison today after pleading guilty to one count of transportation of a minor in interstate commerce to engage in illegal sexual activity, the US Attorney's office reports.

Wolf faces additional time in state prison after being convicted last month in Suffolk Superior Court on a charge of statutory rape of a child.

According to the US Attorney's office and an affidavit filed by an investigator in the case, a security guard at the South Station bus terminal called police when he noticed Wolf and somebody who turned out to be a 14-year-old boy holding hands and touching each other under a blanket on Aug. 17, 2015.

Police determined the two had met through an online dating app and that they'd left on a bus tour of the Northeast that included having sex in several cities.

They didn't report him missing or didn't care?

Great job! South Station is a haven for pimps and predators looking for runaways. BPD and Amtrak police along with security officers are working together to stop these creeps who target teens.

Doesn't seem long enough. Maybe if our prison system rehabilitated people... but as it is he'll get out and go right back to soliciting minors.

Thanks to the security guard at South Station for intervening in the situation. However it strikes me having a more proactive resource might be useful at South Station.

At the former bus station in Montreal was an office staffed with social workers who regularly walked the station looking for folks new in town with no idea of where they were going, often youth from rural areas.

The workers would intercept them before the predators and connect them with local resources, (back then) a phone to call home, etc. I imagine something similar at South Station could prevent much heartache.

Does anyone know if there is an organization in Boston that does such? Travelers Aid might overlap but I haven't seen them in years. I realize DCF is overwhelmed but this would seem their purview. In this season of giving I'd happily give to such a charity doing such work, if there is one.
