Man talked down from Back Bay ledge

A man perched on the ledge of 32 Hereford St., who was threatening to jump this morning, was talked down by BPD negotiators around 12:15 p.m. and is now on the way to the hospital for observation.

A friend of mine stupidly recorded the scene (on Snapchat). Seemed pretty tense and this time of the year can get lonesome or stressful for some. Best of luck.

Actually, that could be useful if used for training people in how to handle such situations.

Except, doesn't Snapchat delete each post immediately after it's viewed?

the sender of any video can archive it for their own purposes indefinitely, if theyre sent as direct messages they do expire after viewing, but if theyre set up for public viewing they're viewable for 24h

Snaps are only 10 seconds long, max. You'd need quite a few.

This time of year is particularly hard for many people. The holiday season can bring on stress and depression, and also, the shorter days can be brutal. Kudos to the people who helped this young man today.

Nice job. I hope this person can get the help he deserves.

That building belongs to an MIT fraternity so it was most likely a student. I live nearby and noticed the heavy police and fire dept presence about an hour into the situation. The amount of care and concern radiating from the team in that alley was palpable. They did an excellent job.

As a human and it's been stated, during the holiday season we shoul be very vigilant of those who are showing or saying sign\things of distress.
Suicide increase during these holiday seasons.
