Mattapan Square could get new apartments

The Herald reports two groups submitted bids for an MBTA-owned parcel next to the Mattapan Line station in Mattapan Square. Both are looking at apartments and retail for the 2.5-acre parcel.

And great that the units appear to have balconies. Seems very appropriate for that location.

Make them pay for a pedestrian overpass, Blue hill Ave is dangerous to cross

Overpasses just make the area more hostile to pedestrians. Look at the difference between Storrow Highway with its (infrequent) overpasses for pedestrians and Memorial Highway on the other side, with surface crossings. Make Blue Hill Ave more pedestrian, dont force pedestrians to climb over streets because drivers dont want to slow down.

IOW make crossings less safe because people "ought to" just slow down, rather than designing them to be safe whether or not people do slow down.

This development is literally the current parking lot for the station. Residents will not have to even cross River Street, let alone Blue Hill Avenue. Sorry, but the state of Blue Hill Ave should not be the concern of whoever gets picked to build.

welcome to the neighborhood the only overpass will be the bike path over the historic trolley line. I can't wait till the peace bridge connecting Milton and Mattapan is completed in the spring.

Yay! I can't wait for my first run to Dorchester Bay after it opens. Not that I minded going up River Street, but to actually be beside the river will be cool.

Where am I supposed to park to take the trolley?

Of course, I don't know how full the lot gets daily.

If I were a developer I would be very nervous about the MBTA Fiscal Control Board's rumblings about cutting the line...
