Medford man charged with verbally assaulting T workers, physically attacking cop at Harvard Square station

Galatis

Transit Police report arresting a Medford man they say threatened to kill T workers who caught him trying to evade his fare at Harvard Square and then punched a T cop before he was brought under control yesterday afternoon.

Police say that Xavier Galatis, 23, of Medford, failed to use the "great problem solving and communication skills" he lists on his LinkedIn page when he was spotted fare jumping around 2:20 p.m.

He became violent and threatened the employee with death. Officers approached Galatis and were greeted by the same belligerent behavior and threats. Officers requested Galatis cease his tumultuous behavior and leave the station. Galatis refused and continued to shout threats at the officers and racial epithets at MBTA employees. Officers attempted to place Galatis into custody and he violently resisted striking the officer in the torso area.

He was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace, police say.

Innocent, etc.

I wonder why such a polite, talented young man has trouble holding down a job for more then a few months and hasn't worked since 2014.

Perhaps he was belligerent as he was just trying to hold onto his "100% on-time" record.

I remember him - attended school with my son. He was okay then, if a bit unmotivated.

I suspect one of the two common problems with people his age is taking hold: drugs and/or mental illness. Otherwise, a stay at the Commonwealth Hotel might disabuse him of being a violent jerk.

Entry level retail jobs aren't glamorous but being able to hold down a job for a solid year is critical if you are hoping to get a better paying or more interesting position.
