No, really: Roslindale restaurant that's been in the works forever could finally open soon

Boston Restaurant Talk reports that 753 South, where Derna's used to be, is so close to opening it's advertising for a sous chef.

The restaurant - a venture by the owner of Delfino across South Street, got one of the city's first neighborhood-specific liquor licenses back in 2014 and has been under construction ever since.

The new bistro will have an outdoor patio and will offer Sunday brunch.

It's looked ready to go for a while now. I wonder if they didn't want to open in summer because there's less business or what. Does anyone know?

I'll also be interested to see how the neighborhood supports another restaurant. Certainly all the current places seems to be doing well, so hopefully there's room for one more. There's also a cluster effect where people can come to Roslindale knowing that if they can't get a table at Delfinos there are 5+ other good options right within a short walk so I think there's a lot of people driving over from surrounding neighborhoods and towns.

As you said, one good restaurant begets another and so on. There are enough customers to go around. Part of the stated rationale in opening this place was to capture people that cannot get into Delfino that night or need to wait for an available table rather than have them leave for someone else's establishment,

I've been waiting for this place to open f-o-r-e-v-e-r.... I really love to invite friends who live up in jp down here for Friday night casual meals, but we've done Redds too much and the places in Westie are just a little far.... Defino/Sophias are just over the edge into "nice meal" where it's way less casual to drop in, so I have big hopes this place can be another casual/fun option.

Check out Shanti and also Village Sushi as well. Both excellent and affordable options.

Interesting opinion - I've always felt Sophia's and Redd's were pretty similar in terms of the fanciness level. Cost, decor, general vibe is casual at both really.

The patio behind the new place looks nice. Didn't find any Pokemon there though...
