Preliminary exam of man found dead on Chelsea sidewalk shows no sign of trauma
Authorities are trying to figure out just how Alex Perez, a.k.a. Alex Perez-Lapop, died on a sidewalk near 83 Cottage St. over the weekend.
A passerby spotted the 34-year-old man lying on the sidewalk around 5 a.m. on Sunday. First responders tried to provide assistance at the scene; he was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead around 5:45 a.m., according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office:
A preliminary examination of his body did not reveal obvious signs of violent trauma; the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of his death.
