is at least they don't have to worry about getting a seat at a high performing charter school and instead can just relax and wait for BPS to decide where their kids will go next summer. I'd bet that whoever ran the school such that it failed like this has not lost their job or pay level within BPS.
Can't wait for all the AWC/BLS 'No on 2' twitter activists to rally around these Boston students.
The charter seats approved last spring are high school seats for two K-8 schools, whereas the Mattahunt is a K-5 school, but I'm sure your snark against charters is appreciated by the 660 Mattahunt parents whose kids don't have a school next year.
In third grade, based on scores on the Terra Nova test (and possibly other things now), kids are invited to AWC. IIRC, they can also join later than 4th grade. There are only AWC classrooms in some schools so many families have to decide whether to move the kid to a new school or stick where they are. Some schools do a better job than others at serving those students invited that choose not to go. The classes are seen as a feeder to the exam schools--not a guarantee but that's what they're shooting for.
Come january they are going to have to start announcing other closings. Probably in the range of a dozen or so and continuing for several years. If we don't get that message it will be obvious they aren't serious about reforming BPS.

So well these Teachers
be labeled as "Displaced" and continue to be employed while not actually working?
One comfort to the families

Charters weren't banned
And, in any case, would one be ready so quickly? Doubt it.
Oh ...
You think none of these kids can win the lottery for one of the 1,100 new charter seats the state approved this year for Boston?
Maybe I missed it, but can you explain the hate for AWC?
Do your homework

Sad
We are at a time when saying winning a lottery for a seat in a decent school is considered normal.
what is AWC?
(I'm assuming it's an abbreviation for the name of some Boston school, since that is what BLS is?)
Advanced Work Class
It's an accelerated program for kids in the 4th and 5th grades.
And 6th

They
already have rallied support. There were non-Mattahunt parents supporting the Mattahunt families at the School Committee meeting.
An easy out

Won't be January...
because someone is running for re-electipn so he's postponing the inevitable for another year.
