They still remember Cocoanut Grove

Cocoanut Grove memorial

Even in a new location, people are still leaving memorials at the Cocoanut Grove memorial plaque, as Brad Squirrels shows us.

Recent development

I think all the recent publicity may have generated these tributes. In all the times I have walked by there in the past there weren't any. But at least the precious, wealthy condo owners don't have to be bothered with any of this.

I walk be there all the time and

These condos have a horrible design where the first floor windows are right at head height on the sidewalk as you pass by. Not only does everyone naturally turn there heads to look in as they pass, but these windows have been getting smashed repeatedly ever since they were first put in. The developer had to replace a lot of them before they sold the units and got out. The new owners are trying to blame their problems on the Coconut Grove plaque, claiming that people are looking in their windows because of it.

Some of the units proposed for near the Pine Street Inn also call for windows just like this, but larger living-room sized ones. I can't wait til those residents try to place blame for those.

It's the ghosts

By on

Whenever you build on a sacred site, the spirits may be upset. Remember all those folks who pressed at the doors trying to escape the inferno of the Grove. Truly the broken windows must be the spirits reenacting that scene of 75 years ago. No doubt worse will happen with residents driven mad by ghosts. The Revere staff have stories of taps found running, scratching noises, guests with fire nightmares. To this day it's a regular occurrence for dogs walking by to start howling randomly. The Shining meets Nightmare on Elm Street, maybe Nightmare on Piedmont Street. I fear that site.

Fun theory

I would point out that every single hotel/motel/inn owner is quick to claim they are haunted, as they know it attracts business they never would get otherwise.

Drunks do things like that.

The very fact that you can reach them means some people will just do that. I don't think it's been people concerned about the plaque. As I said the breakage was happening all the time while they were building, I don't know if it's still a problem.
