Truck Jersey-barriers at key Fenway intersection

Stuck truck

The driver of this 18-wheeler managed to get his trailer stuck nice and tight on the barriers at the intersection of Mass. Ave. and Huntington tonight, as CraigglesOfDoom shows us (Here's another view).

But that's an illegal left, no?

Looks like the no left turn arrows are hidden by the jersey barrier / fence combo. At least from the street view in google maps - they look like they're low on the poles, thus my supposition.

Nope, I take a left there all the time.

A left from Mass Ave (heading south) onto Huntington (heading up to Copley)?

See signs here. But it's not surprising to hear that you take a left there all the time-- it's quite common, and traffic enforcement in that area is less than stellar.

That intersection is in kind of a weird area with respect to neighborhoods, at the confluence of Back Bay/South End/Fenway/Roxbury. But I'm gonna say it's Back Bay and not Fenway.

Boston Redevelopment Authority puts it in Back Bay

This dude puts it in Fenway

City of Boston has a fuzzy map that really doesn't clarify
http://www.cityofboston.gov/neighborhoods/

But, probably the most clear cut, resident parking signs say "Fenway / Kenmore" as close as St Stephen's (NW) on the back side of Symphony Hall and St Botolph (SW) on the other side of the intersection, but then on St Botolph to the East of the intersection, you're in Back Bay.

So, Mass Ave is in practice the division between Back Bay and Fenway/Kenmore at this location. Ergo, the truck is in fact half in Fenway and half in Back Bay. C'mon Adam, you didn't know that off the top of your head?

But, even if Mass Ave is the divider, then he's turning into the Back Bay.

I saw an 18-wheeler do that exact turn Thursday morning on the way to work. Obviously this guy missed "how to pivot the rig around the back wheels" day at truck driving academy. The right turn in front of Symphony Hall onto Huntington in that direction is definitively banned for trucks.

The renovation of that intersection has been amazingly drawn out. I think we're going into the third year of it now.

That turn is "banned for trucks"???!!! If so, this must be the least enforced ban in the city (which I know is saying volumes). As for the intersection renovation, there have been signs of "progress" in recent months, in that it is now slightly less dangerous for pedestrians to cross Huntington on the Symphony Hall side, and slightly more dangerous to cross on the other side. And there is now an actual pedestrian light at the St. Stephen/Mass Ave crossing on the Symphony Hall side, for the first time ever that I can remember.

I drove through this intersection last night, and aside from the truck blocking visual access to the stoplight, the intersection signalling was giving green lights to both Mass Ave through-traffic and cars turning off Huntington at the same time. Is it supposed to be like that?? If so: wtf. If not: wtf.

Other than the idiocy of the truck driver's actions, I'm digging the colors in the photo - the yellow-y orange on the truck and the street, the deep blue-purple on the barriers, and the aqua-esque of what I think are LEDs on the side of the apartment building ... kind of fun!
