"one firefighter was hurt slipping on ice outside the garage"

Minor tangent, but at what point does the city start to drop the hammer on residents and businesses that refuse to clear sidewalks after storms? Kind of a kick in the pants to show up to put out a fire and slip and get hurt because the owner (or neighbor depending on where they actually slipped) didn't bother to do their civic duty and clear the sidewalks of ice and snow.

I have to say, I'm extra vigilant while walking in Eastie given that closer to 50% of houses don't bother to do any snow or ice removal.

We don't know that's what caused this FF to be injured. There tends to be a lot of ice around fire scenes in the winter, what with all the water being sprayed around and dripping/flowing onto frozen surfaces.

Well, we're both wrong. According to someone on the scene, it wasn't ice the guy slipped on, but a hose that rapidly filled with water that tripped him up.
