Another candidate running for city council in Roxbury

Brother Charles

Charles Clemons Muhammad recently announced he is running for the District 7 City Council seat now held by Tito Jackson, who is set to announce a run for mayor later today.

He joins Rufus Faulk and Kim Janey in the race for the two-year seat. Several other people are also considering a run.

Decreasing the incidences of senseless murders and gun violence that have plagued The District; improving public education and funding the Boston Public Schools system better; increasing economic development and jobs creation for District residents; and working to prevent gentrification that displaces long-term residents and businesses.

Muhammad, a former Boston police officer, is the owner of Touch FM. Muhammad, who now runs for office every year, came in second to Jackson for the seat in 2015. Last year, he lost a bid for state representative against incumbent Liz Malia.

Guessing you're referring to the pirate radio broadcasts?

I'm not Johnny Government Regulation, but it is a finite band. "Pirate radio broadcasts" understates what Touch was/is. This was a professional-sounding urban format with an advertising sales department and everything.

Can you imagine buying spots from this guy? The feds could have seized his transmitter at any moment. I wouldn't imagine a refund would be forthcoming.

I remeber seeing his signs up every year for whatever office he was running for, but only as Charles Clemons. Then, last year or so, he changed his signs to Charles Clemons Muhammed, at least in the signs in Roxbury and Mattapan. I still see some signs sans Muhammed in surrounding neighborhoods...is it just me or does this come off as a vote grabbing scheme? Also, he was not a police officer for very long, perhaps due to the pirate radio?

For many who have grown up here and/or have strong ties to Boston, this is a major issue.

How can we mitigate the consequences of inequity and marginalization so that we can not just survive, but thrive in our beloved city?

What can be done to avoid displacing so many Bostonians?

Your triple decker is now worth over a million, how is that an issue?

The above comment is based on the assumption that many people own their homes.

Boston has no shortage of wannabe politicians. Iraq doesn't have the monopoly on corrupt people.
