Bail set at $500,000 for man charged with shooting at police

A Dorchester Municipal Court judge today set bail at $500,000 for Kristopher Jordan, who is charged with opening fire on Boston gang-unit officers pursuing somebody else in Mattapan early Saturday, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

The officers, who did not return fire, charged him with assault by means of a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

If convicted, Jordan, a Jamaica Plain resident, faces stiffer penalties as a repeat gun offender because of his 2011 conviction on gun charges after a foot chase through Grove Hall. Jordan was still on probation for that incident, the DA's office reports, adding he also received probation in 2008 for assault and battery on a police officer in Fall River.

Innocent, etc.
