Susan Anyanwu-Corbin was 22 years old when she went missing in February 2016. Her missing poster described her as a light-skinned black woman with black hair, brown eyes, and a nose ring, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and 120 pounds. She came over from Nigeria shortly before her 18th birthday, sponsored by another family member. She lived with her mother in Boston for a few years before her mother moved back to Nigeria.

She attended West Roxbury High School for a time before switching to an alternative diploma program for working adults, while working a series of retail jobs to support herself. While working she had lived in several neighborhoods in Boston, including Dorchester, Roslindale and Hyde Park. Her headmaster at the Boston Adult Technical Academy was quoted as saying "Susan was popular and enthusiastic, and she always had a warm presence in our school. She was insightful and generous in her contributions to class discussions. Susan was a resilient and determined student despite her life obstacles. She will be missed. Everyone in our school community passes along their condolences to Susan's friends and family as the cope with this tragic loss."

She wanted to become a nurse or work in a medical lab, and who had an interest in fashion and a caring way with younger relatives. She didn’t drink or smoke and had never been in any trouble. She enjoyed seeing movies.
