Citizen complaint of the day: There's only so much Turkey in the Straw you can take

Around 3 p.m., an aggravated citizen filed a complaint about an ice-cream truck in the area of Grant Street and Crescent Avenue in Dorchester:

There is an ice cream truck that has been circling the neighborhood playing a loud annoying tune every 5 minutes for the last 4 hours. Is there an ordinance that can be enforced to stop this?

Actually, didn't our esteemed city council pass a law on this a few years back?

Here are the specifics for the city of Boston, listed at bpdnews.com under loud parties, but also includes any noise from any source.

Shut the f*** up.

Most of those trucks violate idling rules for commercial vehicles as well.

of delivery vans, ice cream trucks, etc... I really appreciate the absence foul diesel exhaust from the MBTA busses - remember how gross that used to be, especially in the summer? The worst.

Delivery vans just need enough energy to move the truck.

Ice cream trucks need enough energy to both move the truck *and* run the coolers the entire day. It's considerably more energy, which will mean that ice cream trucks may be amongst the last to electrify.

Most of those trucks violate idling rules for commercial vehicles as well.

I thought there was an exemption if the equipment needed the engine running in order to work? Meaning the refrigeration doesn't work when shut off.

The vehicle probably does not violate the city's noise ordinance. I don't know if the city has an ordinance for folks who get annoyed by listening to noises they personally find annoying.

The city and the state have anti-idling laws limiting vehicles from idling.

LOOK IT UP: Massachusetts General Law (MGL), Chapter 90, Section 16A,
310 Code of Massachusetts Regulation (CMR), Section 7.11 and
MGL, Chapter 111, Sections 142A – 142M

And please refrain from making crap up about "noise" and "oh you don't like noise" because this isn't about noise. Unless you really want to continue to look stupid. It is about the dubious distinction that Massachusetts tops the nation in asthma, and has an aging urbanized population that doesn't need the added burden of cardiovascular disease (which is scientifically linked to traffic pollution).

Same issue, ice cream truck playing the same electronic calliope of one song on endless repeat. I'm two blocks away and have heard it seemingly every night for the past 8 weeks. Make it stop, or at least, increase the repertoire of one.

Adam
As I am reading this, there is an ad at the top of the page for "Flags as low as $6.98" with a picture of a Confederate flag. I clicked on the ad and it brings me to this full selection of Confederate flags, and other Confederate memorabilia.
http://www.gadsdenandculpeper.com/confederate-flag-section.html.

I (and you) spent much of the day on the Common Saturday rallying against what these flags stand for. I suggest you seek a different ad service if possible or register your displeasure with this service (Google?)

Looks like it might be based on the site content. Lots of antifa and Confederacy flag talk here.

Adam is getting a lot of hater traffic these days. More power to him if he can make some money off them.

Welcome to the neighborhood you stupid yuppie. (Yeah I'm making an assumption here)

My local ice cream truck plays "The Entertainer." Which is almost more annoying because that's a good tune that gets ruined by calliope style repetition. "Turkey in the Straw" is pretty annoying to start with.

I bet that same guy comes to Chelsea.. I've heard that one too.

I hate to be "get off my lawn" kinda person, but by the end of the summer.. I've had it with the music for hours on end all around my neighborhood.

I'd be OK if they sold decent ice cream.. We have 4 trucks that come to our neighborhood.. 3 of them sell novelty ice cream and not real stuff. One does sell Soft Serve from a machine....

is precisely the point of ice cream trucks. When we were kids, that was how we were able to get bomb pops and other stuff our parents would never buy for us.

I read this article a few years ago and ever since I have not been able to stomach ice cream trucks for reasons beyond just the decibels.

I'm guessing you intended to include one but it got dropped.

I think you completely buried (what should have been) the lede here. It's an absolutely abhorrent song and should go the way of confederate monuments.

Still less irritating than the truck that drives around the southwest corridor playing Christmas carols in August

NYC banned ice cream truck music while the truck is stopped. It had been a major source of complaints. Trucks can still ring a bell while they're stopped.

This is one law I wholeheartedly agree with.
