Long awaited Leather District ramen bar close to opening

Amateras, a 40-seat ramen bar at 112 South St. could open in a couple of months.

Owner Koichi Watanabe this morning asked the Boston Licensing Board for a food-serving license, some 18 months after he initially proposed the concept. His attorney, Kenneth Augen, said Watanabe had run into unexpected construction and permitting issues, but that all of them have been resolved.

The board votes on a new license on Thursday. The mayor's office supported the request.
