Pothole of Doom emerges to feast on tires on Storrow Drive

The tire-eating pothole is inbound just past the Kenmore ramp, so might be time to seek one of those alternate routes.

Thanks for the info. I'm reluctantly driving into town tomorrow for a meeting. Do you happen to know whether it's in the left or right lane?

Right lane, right after it slopes down. It's turned massive over the past couple days, saw a car with a flat (and probably a dented wheel) pulled over today just after it.

I ended up getting on the Pike at Brighton/Cambridge and bypassing Storrow altogether. partly b/c of GPS recommendation but also because of the info in this thread.
Thanks again.

There is another one, perhaps not quite so dire (but getting there, and probably only getting worse with the plowing) inbound, in the right lane, right as you go under the overpass before the Central ramp too. Watch out on Memorial Drive, right lane, about 1000 feet before JFK street too. I blame these two potholes for my regular need for an alignment on my car.

Maybe it'll stop some trucks before the overpasses have to do the job.

Can you confirm if anyone called this into the city?

This one is on the Commonwealth - MassDOT if not DCR.

on sections of Storrow Drive, the road is under DCR jurisdiction.

I heard about it over the Boston Police radio, where an officer who spotted it asked to have it called into the state while he sat there to try to keep more people from driving into it (even when it's State Police jurisdiction, BPD will do things like that until the staties show up).

Yep, I think I hit it last night - it woke me out of a sound sleep....

I keep mis-reading the title as Porthole of Doom.

My tires somehow survived, but killed my suspension. Looking at $5k in repairs. I hit it on Monday morning - there were 2 potholes next to each other. Anyone know of any recourse to get some of my money back?

I was coming into Beacon Hill the other night and hit two big potholes lines up with each other inbound next to BC. They blew the sidewall on one tire and MANGLED the other wheel (dented so bad it can't be repaired fully). Heads up out there.

Also, I drive a car with sport wheels and suspension and potholes are always throwing out my alignment. Next time you're considering tires, check with Sullivan Tire because they offer an unlimited alignment deal as long as you're wearing a tire they sold you.

Good luck.
