Wild guess: Dorchester, where what is now South Bay Center... Target and Home Depot, etc.
Can't make out the Latin motto
I believe it reads "Fortibus es in aro"
A guess
What is now West Service Road Extension and the Postal Service trailer storage area? In behind Fort Point and the new Convention Center.
Some Hints...
- The smokestack is still there! A public housing development is its present neighbor.
- William Munroe Trotter briefly lived in one of the rowhouses (#105) in the background as a toddler in the mid-1870s. A tiny street in the public housing development is named for him.
- The streetcar line was cutback from Egleston Square to this location in 1956.
- The remainder of that line was converted to bus operation in 1960.
- The factory of a famous piano company is just out of frame to the left.

Well, Trotter Court is in the Lenox/Camden development, so that would put this in the South End. If the street is Tremont, the picture would have been taken roughly from the location where Douglas Park is now, or maybe in between that and Camden Street. If that's correct, though, nearly everything in the photo has been obliterated since then. Wow. As far as date, the Lenox side went up in 1939 and the Camden side in 1949. I think the smokestack actually belongs to the site's heating plant, but I can't tell if both sides are there, between the angle and the crappy resolution on my monitor.

Route 43 trolley's at the Lenox street loop. Based on the sun, stars, and available flora and fauna I'd say August of 1956.

Standing on the shoulders of others:
This is a Boston Elevated Yard, picture taken from Columbus Ave, Tremont is the next street over. Taken from where Douglas Park is now, looking towards Lenox Street in the center of the pic. All of which have been replaced by newer housing developments (newer than this pic anyway).
