Two convicted of murdering snow shoveler in JP after 2015 blizzard

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted Donte Henley, 27, and Josiah Zachery, 21, of second-degree murder for the shooting death of Kenny Lamour as he worked on a crew clearing snow on Centre Street near the Arborway after a blizzard in February, 2015, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

The verdict means sentence of life, but with the possibility of parole after 15 years.

Lamour, 21, was working on a crew organized by Roca, Inc., a group that tries to help young people escape their violent pasts.

Unfortunately for Lamour, his past, in the form of two gang members, one from Hyde Park and one from South Boston, caught up with him on Feb. 11.

In addition to second-degree murder, jurors also convicted Zachery of illegal gun possession and assault with a dangerous weapon for shooting at, but missing, a Boston police officer tracking him through the snow, the DA's office reports.

Sometimes Boston is a small city. We often note that we are connected to most people by seven degrees; but in this case, two -- I am familiar with the victim and with the shooter and his family. Sad stories. Anything that we all can do to nurture young people in the city is time well-invested.
