Wrong way one-way street about to get much worse?

There's a one-way street in Allston where people are constantly driving the wrong way. I do mean constantly - my guess is upwards of 100 per hour. It's obvious why: this is one of the exits of the Everett St Stop and Shop, and it's hugely inconvenient to use the one proper exit on the other side of the plaza. The problem is that this one-way dumps into a three-way intersection where the other cars have stop signs. People barrel out of the Stop and Shop plaza and into this intersection all day long.

Also, there are no sidewalks, so any pedestrians have to walk in the street. I've tried to get the City Council to do something about it, but they just sent a cop over for a couple afternoons and that was that. With the new Boston Landing commuter rail stop opening in less than two weeks, this problem is about to get much worse. The station has no parking, and is designed to be a "Kiss and Ride" setup. That means people will be dropped off and picked up and those cars have to go somewhere. Namely, through this one-way, the wrong way.

This is the much more in-depth accounting of what's going on if you want to know the ugly details: https://www.reddit.com/r/boston/comments/6atlt7/why_do_people_think_its_...

Years ago when they let Stop & Shop build where the old Ryerson Steel plant was, they held public hearings on the traffic problems it would cause.

Trucks making deliveries could only use certain streets to enter and leave. And they tried to control the way shoppers enter & leave too. Traffic has changed for the worse. Then add the New Balance facility to the mix.

From the beginning, there was the entrance to S&S at the bottom of the Everett St. Bridge going Southbound (toward Union Sq.) There are cars coming OUT from the ENTRANCE, going the WRONG WAY. It states in the parking lot DO NOT EXIT. They are going to cause a head-on collision ! They have the nerve to swear, give YOU the finger, etc.like you are doing something wrong ?

Then people coming from Union Sq. (No. Beacon St.) on Everett St. that try to make a LEFT into S&S when there is a sign that states NO LEFT TURN that hold up the flow of traffic (if you're stuck behind them).

I think your "tiny" street problem where there is no traffic needs to be made a 2 -Way. Put up a STOP sign. You would be foolish to drive from under a bridge and not STOP anyway because you can't see. I do see signs of a sidewalk there. Of course the City will say that it's not their problem because the bridge is owned by the Mass Pike. Or the Mass Pike will say it's up to the State Police, etc., etc. Maybe a community group to clean up the sidewalk on a Saturday would do the trick. Another Community Group planted tulips & daffodils on the slopes of the Everett St. Bridge as a beautification effort.

I had the same thing living in Barry's Corner (No.Harvard St & Western Ave.) with abandoned and illegally parked cars. The Boston Police would say, "Are you sure that isn't Cambridge ?" or " That's MDC controlled property". They don't want to come out. They don't know the area.

Where I live now, the Info Line at City Hall doesn't even show my street. So if I need an ambulance, I guess I'm sh!t out of luck. I don't have enough fingers to count how many times a Boston Police vehicle has come down my street the WRONG WAY. I live on a one-way street. The cop has eve asked me if this was a certain street. He was looking for a different street ? I didn't even have the nerve to tell him he was coming down a one-way street the wrong way. I've had FedEx, Amazon, etc. drivers asking me what street this is ?

I suggested to Ciommo's office that they make it a 2-way back in 2013, but was told it wouldn't happen. The problem right now is that there are no sidewalks. On one side, it's maybe 2 feet wide, dirt, uneven, no curb cuts for wheelchairs (and there is someone in the neighborhood who I have seen many times in an electric wheelchair going to the Stop and Shop in the middle of the street because there's no other choice.

There could be a sidewalk on the other side, closer to the pike, but there are trees growing out of that, and it's also dirt. Plus they'd have to paint crosswalks and put up a stop sign.

The fix here is actually pretty simple. But I seriously think it's going to take an accident for it to happen. Can't wait to see what things look like after next week when Boston Landing opens...
