Maximum wind speeds predicted by NWS for Tuesday.

Maximum wind speeds predicted by NWS for Tuesday.

We've cranked French Toast Alert level to Red/Severe - and it doesn't get any higher than that - because of the latest National Weather Service forecast for Tuesday, which calls for 12 to 18 inches in the Boston area (but possibly higher north of the city along the coast) and high expected wind speeds, which could combine to give us a classic nor'easter blizzard.

How's Harvey reacting?

And he's pretty excited.

"Simply put for most of Tuesday: a blizzard. I can't describe it more succinctly than that. Again, conditions will become terrible if not impossible on the roadways during the height of the storm."

He says this off camera so you can bet there's a big SEG on his face.

(Setup is actually pretty similar to '78, except it has been forecast for a week now.)

We're expecting "a high-impact storm, a very high-impact storm," he says.

And in case you had any doubts, "it's going to be a really big storm on Tuesday."

any day now. We're hoping the storm is being overhyped, or that the little guy decides to stick around for a few more days.

You may want to call your local police station. Let them know your wife is expecting. If they shut down the roads, they might be able to give you a ride to the hospital. Probably safer than an Uber …

Seriously - they might be able to send a plow if you need it!

My landlady went into labor on March 31, 1997. They actually sent her home in the afternoon(!) even though it was already snowing. We tenants kept the driveway and car cleared out until they left around 2:30am. I got the plow guy across the street to swing by every half hour or so to bust the tailings. He also notified the town of the situation, so the street was plowed out every half hour until they left.

Good luck!

hopefully the storm and labor doing coincide. but if they do - call your PD and your FD and your highway department, and they should be able to help.

congrats on the baby :)

Is there a hotel\motel near the hospital you could check into for a couple of nights, so you would only have a short drive?

It doesn't help if you only live 5 or fewer miles away.

If the hotel is across the street from the hospital, what does it matter if you live 40 miles away or 5 miles away?

Mrs. Bugs Bunny just informed me our milk expiration date is on Wed, so I will be battling the crowds at Shaws tomorrow for a new gallon!

This one is going to be busy for Boston, just like the last one. NWS should have an updated model.
around 4am, so we shall see.

I just quickly read the headline and glanced at the map at first. The way the number is positioned for Boston, it looks like it says 53".

I almost dropped my phone.

Such a pessimist. I thought it said 53 degrees! Wishful thinking on my part.

but I read the headline before looking at the image, so was already expecting lots of winter.

Likelihood of the T shutting the whole system down? Trying to decide if I should bring extra clothes with me to work tomorrow...

Thankfully I'm riding the bus so it has to be pretty bad for transit to be a no-go completely.

...I would not count on buses going much of anywhere, and I wouldn't take a bus if I wasn't prepared to get stranded en route.
