Citizen complaint of the day: The over-eager bird feeder of Causeway Street is back

Too much birdseed on Causeway Street.

A concerned citizen files a complaint about a woman who appears to buy birdseed by the truckload, which she then lays down on the regular in the little park that overlooks I-93 and the Zakim Bridge next to the Garden:

Crazy bird feed baby is at it again, This attracts rats etc.

Last year's complaint - which the city never answered.

freshly applied salt on a commuter rail platform. They are predicting snow for Friday morning, after all.

No Joke.. The T will like salt days ahead of a storm. I caught some of this a few weeks ago:

It's probably a clue that they've applied way too much.

If all that salt results in an electrical current from corrosion, then the T would be charged with a salt and battery?

it's probably a clue that you're looking at a Jedi mind bridge.

It is not politically correct to bully people with mental health issues by calling them "crazy" . For all you know, this is probably the only source of happiness she gets.

You mean it wouldn't be adorable?

Here in Eastie, we have a local guy whose house backs onto the Greenway. He likes to toss food from his balcony. You know, the usual: submarine rolls, giant vats of pasta with the gravy (aka: the red sauce), meatballs included on a good day, but the skunks and raccoons tend to get to them first. For the pigeons, he takes extra steps of going out onto the Greenway and then spreading out about 20 lbs of dog kibble in a ten foot line that feeds several flocks of pigeons at once. Very thoughtful of him, to spread it out like that for them. The rodents are also very appreciative.
I'd attach a photo of today's smorgasbord, but comments don't allow for that, yet.

You can upload a photo to a site like imgur.com, then link to it from here.

Also probably worth a 311 report. :-P

Every morning , my neighbor puts out a big tray of rice for the birds on the ground in the back yard. The squirrels and the rats enjoy the rice too.
Another woman on the second floor of the same house just tosses her rice out the window and onto the roof of the first floor porch . The roof buffet seems to be more popular with the squirrels than the birds.
Unfortunately neither woman seems to speak English . I spoke to one guy who lives in the house who thought the mention of rats was funny. He told me they have bigger rats in Vietnam.
And yes, I've sent 3 messages to 311 over the last 2 years. Cases closed with no specific reference. It pisses me off because I do not think rats are funny.

"I do not think rats are funny"

Remy in Ratatouille was pretty funny.

but only to keep them off the platform bird feeder. I have an ear of dry corn suspended 3 ft off the ground from a tree branch. Keeps 'em busy, and fun to watch, too.

Yeah. Since moving to East Boston, I have always wondered if the bread multiplies once they bring it in the house, or if they just have no concept of ordering only what you need. We had three generations living in one building next to us who would, like clockwork, leave out what seemed like 4 bags of skunk food...er, bread, every single week.

blizzard, Nor'easter, and hurricane since 1978, and never figured out that bread has a usable shelf life considerably less than that of Hostess Twinkies.

.... buy the woman a rodent proof bird feeder and shut up.

He eats bird seed, and I don't see any strawberries in that photo.

I don’t want to shame her anything but the thing that bugs me is that they generally walk away. I think if you do this you must be required to stay and enjoy it.

Wow, before that park was there, this used to be a daily occurrence all over the sidewalk on the other side of the street. Which was really annoying because 1) my shoes 2) there used to be a grassy area RIGHT NEXT TO THE SIDEWALK (about to be a Marriott hotel) but still the cracked corn was always poured onto to the sidewalk 3) I never ever saw any birds eating it. I assumed the person moved or got in trouble. Surely it was and is feeding the local rats at night. Bleah.
