The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded around 2:15 p.m. to 140 Western Ave., where two workers fell about 18 feet at the construction site for Harvard's new science and engineering complex.

Both workers were lowered to the ground and handed off to EMTs for transportation to a local hospital. Both suffered injuries not considered life threatening, the department says.

Here's hoping they've got no serious injuries, and that they're not crippled for life!

to do a full spinal immobilization of anyone who's been through something that could cause a spinal injury, just as a precaution. So while it's concerning that someone's been through such a fall, the fact that EMS backboarded them doesn't indicate an injury.

probably means a railing gave way, if I had to hazard a guess. Not just someone neglecting to clip in.

(But I haven't worked construction; maybe someone else has more insight...)
