Developer wins approval for new residential building near Suffolk Downs; proposes two more East Boston buildings

The BPDA board last week approved construction of a 38-unit residential building on Walley Street, near Suffolk Downs, that would feature some rare four-bedroom units and a number of three-bedroom units.

Joseph Donovan's MG2 Group, LLC now has to win variances from the Board of Appeals for his proposal to replace an auto-repair garage and parking lot.

MG2, meanwhile, has filed letters of intent with the BPDA for new buildings in Jeffries Point and Central Square.

MG2 is proposing to replace a warehouse at 287 Maverick St. in Jeffries Point and replace it with a 37-unit residential building (5 designated as affordable), with ground-floor retail space and 30 parking spaces.

The developer is also proposing to tear down an auto-repair garage at 152 Liverpool St. in Central Square to put up a 23-unit apartment building (3 affordable), ground-floor retail and 9 parking spaces.

Wow!! 287 Maverick st
37 unit condo building , they will all sell quick to, Just like all the brand new condo’s that have been currently selling around Eastie.
East Boston is very hot right now, developers are buying up old run down large triple deckers and gutting them out and turning them into luxury condominiums with the back bayisque bells & whistles & high end amenities and selling each unit upwards of $650k or more each, and people are buying them, and they will continue to buy them. As long as they keep building more and more.

That's not nearly enough affordable housing units for this neighborhood. And I'm sure the rest will be out of reach of most people unless they have tons of roommates or have piles of money. We shouldn't let people build in Boston unless at least 50% to 75% of the units are affordable for low and median incomes. It's unconscionable to displace working and middle class people from the cities that depend on their labor and work while telling them they're not allowed to live here unless they can afford a $3000+ apartment.

These Billionaire developers are turning Eastie around..For those who haves lived in Eastie for more than 40 ,50 or 60 years, we all know how Eastie use to look like back then, and now you can see the transformation.
Just think, if it wasn’t for these Billionaire developers , you wouldn’t see these vacant lots changed into brand new luxury condos. So the neighborhood should be Grateful.
