Convicted Missouri bank robber is going to have to risk getting stranded without a cot at Logan when he's released later this month

A federal judge today dismissed a lawsuit by a Missouri bank robber nearing the end of his sentence at a Massachusetts facility that demanded Gov. Baker ensure Logan Airport has at least 500 cots - and a commensurate number of portable toilets - on hand for possible weather-related delays this winter.

In her ruling, Judge Indira Talwani said Joseph W. Jean-Louis - due for release on Dec. 22 from the Devens Federal Medical Center - lacked "standing" to even bring the suit:

He failed to allege any direct personal injury to himself, or how he was injured in a manner apart from other citizens. His challenge is essentially a statement of dissatisfaction with various actions, or inactions, taken by the defendants. Thus, this action will be dismissed for lacking an arguable basis in law.

Louis was convicted for a 2007 bank robbery in Springfield, MO, in which he demanded money while chomping on a half-smoked cigar.

In his suit, which he filed by himself in US District Court in Boston in October, Jean-Louis also demanded Mayor Walsh go on TV to

[A]dvertise its citizen to have enough canned goods to feed their family’s for ninety days without going to the supermarket and for its citizens to stock-pile stock-pile stockpile [sic] drinking water.

Barge capsizes near two shipping channels into Boston Harbor

The Coast Guard is urging mariners piloting ships into Boston Harbor to be extra careful this morning due to a barge that may have sunk somewhere near two of the main approaches into the port:

The Port of Boston remains open; however, mariners are advised to use extreme caution when transiting the area. The Coast Guard recommends no vessels transit the North or South Boston Main Channels until further notice.

The Coast Guard says the barge broke free Sunday morning:

The captain of tug boat Big Jake notified the Coast Guard at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Sunday that two of five barges they were towing had broken free and were adrift.

Crew members from Coast Guard Station Point Allerton and Coast Guard Cutter Key Largo responded to the scene along with the tug boats Smith Predator, Justice, and Kendall J. Hebert.

While Big Jake was being escorted to Hull two more barges broke free bringing the total number of adrift barges to four.

The three tug boats each located a barge and brought them to safe havens.

The fourth barge, which was carrying construction equipment, capsized and possibly sank two miles southeast of Nahant.

The Coast Guard adds State and Boston Police harbor crews are expected to go to the area this morning and use sonar in an attempt to locate the barge.

Boy from New Hampshire becomes newest Boston firefighter

Levi, from Claremont, NH, is a big fan of emergency services. He was scheduled for heart surgery at Children's Hospital this morning. Our own Cybah was part of a chain of people who helped arrange trips in emergency vehicles for him from his home to where he and his parents would be staying in Boston. This morning, he rode to Children's in Boston Engine 3 - after being sworn in as an honorary Boston firefighter.

Some Boston bridgework

What's old is new: Myron Freeman took in the new lights on the rebuilt Longfellow Bridge yesterday (see it from the other side).
