When neighborhood boundaries matter

Yeah, mostly they're just a plot to drive editors insane, but don't tell that to Evelyn Cartwright, who had to fight with her insurance company to get Dorchester insurance rates for her car, which the company insisted was parked in Roxbury, where rates are higher.

Police kept busy in normally sleepy West Roxbury today

Not long after the City of Boston Credit Union on Spring Street was held up, the Hess station on Washington was held up at gunpoint, allegedly by a guy who didn't get far before being arrested. And soon after that, police began swarming the area of Bellevue Hill and Washington Street into Roslindale after a house on Bellevue Street was broken into.

DA: East Boston drinking bout ends in one of grisliest murder scenes investigators have ever seen

A Revere man was ordered held without bail at his arraignment today on charges he beat and sliced up a drinking buddy early Friday, then dragged his body into an alley - leaving behind at least two of his fingerprints in his victim's blood - the Suffolk County District Attorney's office says.

Cristian Santa, 20, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in East Boston District Court for the murder of John Barrientos.

Prosecutors did not say what allegedly sent Santa into such a murdering rage after a drinking session that started the night before, but whatever it was, it ended with Barrientos stabbed and beaten repeatedly in the basement of his Chelsea Street apartment building, from which, prosecutors say, Santa dragged his body upstairs.

"Veteran investigators said this was among the grisliest crime scenes they'd ever encountered," DA Dan Conley said in a statement. According to the DA's office:

Witnesses told authorities that they later heard screams and "thudding" sounds at about 5:00 a.m. At about 6:00, [Assistant District Attorney Ursula] Knight told the court, Santa made his way home to his residence in Revere.

Channel 5 reports investigators believe that in addition to stabbing Barrientos nearly 100 times, Santa also pulled all his teeth out.

Innocent, etc.
