Some Harvard students learn that, hey, those teaching assistants telling them to wear safety goggles knew what they were talking about

The Crimson reports a bunch of students in a biochemistry class basically got sunburned eyeballs because they were in "a lazy kind of mood" and didn't bother to put on protective goggles while using UV light in some experiments on DNA:

As a result, they suffered from what Adeyemi was told may have been “thermal retinal burn from UV radiation,” a condition that includes symptoms of eye redness, pain, and blurry vision.

You can't buy coverage like that, or maybe you can

Blue Mass. Group notes the conflict in a column by Holly Robichaud, who doubles as both scribe and political consultant:

How does a freshman state representative get mentioned as a "serious threat" to Democrats looking to retain the Congressional seat being vacated by Barney Frank? Seventeen grand should do it.

Thing is, Robichaud failed to note the consulting fees, for which, of course, BMG provides the state records.

Because if there's one thing West Roxbury doesn't have enough of, it's places to get a sub

Wicked Local West Roxbury reports a Subway franchise is planned for that office-ish building at Centre and Corey, next to the West Roxbury Pharmacy - just like the one that opened this week in Roslindale.

Clover to Boston media: Leave us alone

Clover, the non-meat food truck and Harvard Square restaurant, takes exception to being put in a Weekly Dig "Best of" listing:

What are these "best of" things anyway? They're a way for these publications to (a) advertise by piggybacking on businesses who are "awarded," and (b) a way for publishers to drive more traffic to their website/ publication. Does any of that have to do with food? Does it have to do with low prices? Does it speed up our serve times? Does it have to do with our relationships with our customers? Does it have anything to do with sourcing ingredients? No, no, no, no, no, no.

Dig Publisher Jeff Lawrence responds in his typical, understated manner:

You pompous pr*ck!

State charges foreclosure, lending fraud by giant lenders

Attorney General Martha Coakley today announced a lawsuit against five large banks and mortgage companies, alleging they falsified documents, seized property they had not right to, lied to borrowers about refinancing programs and attempted to circumvent state property registration laws by using a private clearinghouse - which is also named in the complaint.

The suit, filed in Suffolk Superior Court, names Bank of America, Wells Fargo, JP Morgan Chase, Citi, GMAC and the Mortgage Electronic Registration System.

Everything but the kitchen sink at Occupy Boston tonight

Sink-seizing police. Video by Bob Plain.

Boston Police tonight activated its emergency-deployment system and brought in officers from across the city to seize a sink Occupy Boston tried to bring in for dish washing. Channel 5 reports three people were arrested during a skirmish over the sink, which comes as city officials claim they need the authority to clear out the encampment in part because of hygiene concerns.

The boy who hates Tom Brady

Little Christopher, who lives somewhere in the Philadelphia area, really, really, really hates Tom Brady. If you were his father, would you put this online?

State Police looking for driver of car involved in minor accident before man died in O'Neill Tunnel

State Police say they want to talk to the driver of a car with whom David Dang was talking in the Tip O'Neill Tunnel moments before Dang was fatally struck by another car last Friday.

State Police say they are looking for that driver - and the driver of another car that passed by around the same time - to better understand Dang's death. At this point, State Police say Dang and the first driver got into a minor accident around 8:15 a.m., stopped their cars in the far right lane of the southbound side of the tunnel and got out and talked. Dang was about to get back into his car when an Ayer man swerved into him to avoid a collision. That driver then stayed at the scene, talked to police and has not been charged.

State Police are also looking for the driver of "a light-colored station wagon, possibly a Subaru," that was following the Ayer man's car.

The drivers and any passengers of these two vehicles are urged to call the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit at 617-727-8817 or the State Police Tunnel Barracks at 617-946-3000.
