East Boston man faces eighth OUI charge

State Police report an East Boston man who's already been ordered to stay away from the wheel for the rest of his life was arrested for drunk driving Wednesday night in Revere.

Albert Diaz, 52, stunk of booze and had glassy, bloodshot eyes when a state trooper stopped him around 11 p.m. after spotting him speeding and weaving on Rte. 16 in a Hyundai, police say.

Diaz is under a lifetime driving suspension because of all his prior OUI convictions, police say.

This time around, he faces charges of operating under the influence of liquor, marked lanes violations, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle after revocation for OUI, speeding and failure to wear a seatbelt. The Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports he was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Nov. 30, at which prosecutors will ask a judge to keep him locked up for at least another 60 days as an immediate menace to society.

Judge orders woman to unoccupy Boston

A Framingham woman charged with punching and spitting at police officers investigating a possible domestic-violence situation at the Occupy Boston encampment was ordered to stay away from Dewey Square - and anything else having to do with Occupy Boston - while charges remain pending against her, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

According to the DA's office, around 5:15 p.m. last Saturday, police were talking to a woman in a tent whom some other occupiers thought might be under assault by her partner. The DA's office says the woman was telling officers that while they had argued, no blows were exchanged when Jade Anderson, 19, butted in:

As the officers were speaking to the woman, Anderson allegedly ran toward them and began chanting anti-police slogans, spraying the officers with spittle as she did so. Anderson is said to have tried pushing past one officer to get closer to the others as they conducted their interview. At this point, the officer whom she allegedly pushed told her to leave the area.

Instead, authorities say, Anderson became extremely aggressive and punched the officer in the face. When another officer intervened, she allegedly punched him in the face as well, and the three went to the ground as officers tried to take her into custody. It was several minutes before officers were able to place her in handcuffs.

Anderson posted bail after her booking, then failed to appear in court for arraignment, the DA's office says. Then, Wednesday afternoon:

Officers spotted Anderson again, though she had apparently dyed her hair from blond to purple. She allegedly tried to flee when they approached her and kicked one of the officers above his left knee when they placed her under arrest.

As they transported Anderson to the Area A-1 station, the officer she most recently assaulted asked why she had kicked him.

“Because you [expletive] deserve it,” she allegedly responded. She is said to have apologized for that act later, adding that she “had to do what she had to do to fight the corruption.”

At her arraignment today on multiple assault charges and charges of disorderly conduct, Boston Municipal Court Judge Eleanor Coe Sinnott set bail at $850 and ordered Anderson to stay away from Dewey Square and all other Occupy Boston activities within Boston city limits. She is next due in court for a hearing on Dec. 16.

Innocent, etc.

Occupy Best Buy: Some forego Thanksgiving, others have it delivered as they wait for discounted TVs, computers

First in line at the Dedham Best BuyFirst in line at the Dedham Best Buy.

Chris and Mihala, a young couple from Newton, got to the Best Buy in Dedham at 1 a.m. today to await its opening at 1 a.m. on Friday. It was partly so they could pick up a 42-inch TV marked down several hundred dollars and a computer, but also just so they could say they did something like wait outside a store for 24 hours - they'd never done something like that, they'd never even waited in line for concert tickets.

Food? There was takeout. Bathroom breaks? Port-a-Potties around the corner.

Greg Cameron and his wife, from Roslindale, were next to show up - at 8 a.m., followed by Kristina Milonas and her mother, from Norwood. They're more experienced line waiters - they do it every year, deciding which store to wait outside based on the sales. One year it was Target, another year, Wal-Mart, and this year, Best Buy, because of that marked-down TV.

Cameron said he's hoping to get one of those TVs, a DVD player, a laptop and maybe a tablet. Milonas agreed it seems like a lot of time to wait in line, but said the savings make it worth it for people who don't make a lot of money.

The Camerons said relatives delivered them a full Thanksgiving dinner - from turkey to sweet-potato pie - which they ate in their car so as not to annoy the people around them whose might not have such giving relatives. The Milonases said they'll have Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow.

As we talked, a guy came around handing out bottles of Five Hour Energy to the line, which stretched around the corner from the main entrance all the way beyond the other end of the building by the TGI Fridays.

The scene repeated itself at big-box stores across the area. Kevin Wiles reports the first person in line at the Braintree Best Buy had been there since Tuesday. Jed Hresko photographed the line outside the Back Bay Best Buy:

There was even a line outside the Toys R Us in Dedham, although it seemed to only consist of about 10 people, who looked more like defeated refugees than people awaiting bargains.
