The boyfriend of a five-year-old boy's mother was arrested today after State Police and EMTs found the boy "unresponsive" on the sidewalk near his home on Revere Beach Parkway, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Joseph Testa, 28, will be arraigned Monday in Chelsea District Court on charges of assault and battery on a child causing serious bodily injury, wantonly or recklessly permitting bodily injury to a child and child endangerment, the DA's office says.

According to the DA's office, the boy was rushed to Mass. General, where he underwent emergency surgery and where he is now in stable condition.

Innocent, etc.

Running the Necklace

Nathaniel Smith, who lives in Jamaica Plain, limns the joys of an early morning run through the Emerald Necklace:

I run around Jamaica Pond, then down around Wards Pond and Olmsted Park. The park system is great, with sidewalks, ponds, and unpaved wooded paths, and while very popular it feels like a private moment when I run at 7am.

A guide to peanut-free dining in Boston

Steve Selnick has a severe allergy to peanuts. He's chronicling his experiences eating out on Peanut Free: Boston:

Knowing that my meal officially wasn't happening (cross contamination is one of the scariest things to me) the manager put the icing on the cake. He said that if I had an allergy so bad that I would have anaphylaxis (which I would) that I shouldn't be eating out ... at all.

So with this friendly display of allergy ignorance, I can't advise anyone with a peanut allergy to come anywhere close to P.F. Chang's.

Police: Fugitive with violent record gets nabbed helping woman evade subway fare

Nelson MBTA Transit Police report arresting a man wanted for a probation violation for armed robbery and home invasion at the Andrew stop on the Red Line this morning.

Police say Samuel Nelson, 23, formerly of Dorchester, was letting a woman companion "piggyback" with him after he tapped his CharlieCard at the fare gate around 10:30 a.m. - as plainclothes officers were patrolling the fare area. In a report, one of the officers writes:

I approached the female and male, displaying my badge and announcing police, asking for the couple to stop so I could identify the female and issue a fare evasion citation. The female began to yell and scream "Oh no, oh my god, he is wanted, don't arrest him please". At that moment 3 other females ran into the paid fare area yelling and screaming at me.

In contrast, police say, Nelson - identified by the state just this week as a wanted probation violator - remained quiet and cooperated with officers. The officer who wrote the report continued:

The females became more and more disorderly and distraught and hysterical. I required marked units to assist as all the parties were surrounding my location in a threatening manner. ... The female party who fare evaded was issued a verbal warning and all the members were escorted onto the inbound platform to meet Nelson in court. The female was not cited due to the necessity to remove Nelson as soon as possible from the scene.

Innocent, etc.

Third teen charged for allegedly attacking bus driver on Dudley Street over smoking

DonovanMBTA Transit Police today charged Brian Donovan, 18, of Dedham, in connection with a crash that left an MBTA bus in a Dudley Street storefront, a teen pinned against the wall, on April 11.

Donovan, who can be seen in a Pepsi jacket in a video of the crash aftermath, was charged with assault and battery on a public employee and wrongful interference with a common carrier.

The teen pinned to the wall, Felix Garcia, was charged a couple days after the crash for similar offenses, as was Michael Baptista (who can be seen in the video wearing a suit and tie).

Police charge the three began beating the driver after he went to the back of the bus to demand whoever was smoking cut it out, and that the bus crashed after the driver lost consciousness under the hail of fists. Garcia and Baptista, however, allege the driver attacked them and deliberately aimed his bus at Garcia after the teens got off the bus.

Innocent, etc.

Masshole mayhem on Cambridge Street: Motorists vs. bicyclists, again

Marjorie Arons-Barron reports on an incident near Charles Circle yesterday involving ten kids on bicycles riding abreast on Cambridge Street, and an increasingly impatient driver who finally had enough:

It didn't work out too well. The white car sideswiped a weaving cyclist, who flew in one direction, his bike in the other. The car never stopped or pulled over. Fortunately, the bicycle rider picked himself up, retrieved his bike and his helmet and, somewhat shakily, rode to rejoin the other riders in the pack, who had stopped not far from the Liberty Hotel.
