It's painful to watch grown men in the media throw tantrums

Whambulance Pictures, Images and Photos

Wah, poor Howie Carr is upset Scott Brown went to "60 Minutes" to shill his book instead of to him.

Wah, poor Mike Andelman at the Phantom Gourmet is upset a hostess at Grill 23 wouldn't seat him and his fellow Phantom Gourmet'er before the dining room opened:

It's 5 o'clock, and guess what, if the owner of Grill 23 was standing next to this dumb hostess, this moronic hostess who was just getting her, uh, jollies off by sticking to the rules of her little brochure in a little binder, this little monkey, her only job is to look at this binder and say don't let people in 'till 5:30. ...

Dan: Although in her defense she was good-looking apparently. I'd like to see a picture. Was she wearing yoga pants? These are things I want to know. I have a thing for hostesses.

Police say they seized four illegal weapons in three incidents over the weekend

Traffic violations once again proved the police officer's best friend, at least in two of the three gun seizures reported by Boston Police over the weekend.

Around 3:15 a.m. on Saturdday, officers on patrol at Blue Hill Avenue and Washington Street noticed a guy "walking in an unusual manner holding his right hand and arm stiff against the front of his waistband while his left hand swung freely."

Knowing that often indicates the person is carrying a gun, they watched as he got into a car and took off at a high rate of speed. They followed, stopped him and, as they talked to the guy, who was allegedly "very nervous, visibly shaking and breathing very heavy," they noticed a gun handle sticking out from under his seat.

The gun turned out to be a loaded handgun with a high capacity magazine, police say. Christopher Good, 20, of Hyde Park, was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle

Around 2:40 p.m. on Saturday, police executed a search warrant at 3 Westcott St. in Dorchester. Police say they grabbed a gun, a rifle, a magazine with "30 carbine cartridges," crack cocaine, plain old cocaine, some marijuana and some scales. Isaiah Brown, 26, and Jerome Maddrey, 25, both of Dorchester, were arrested on a variety of charges.

Around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, police report, officers stopped a guy for speeding on Dudley Street. Upon approaching the car, they noticed a strong odor of freshly smoked pot, police say. that was enough to order the driver and his two passengers out of the car, which lead them to "a loaded firearm tucked under the front passenger seat."

Irvin Andrews, 28, of Dorchester, was arrested after, police say, he admitted the gun was his and pleaded to "let the girls go." Police say they were, although one was issued a citation for possession of marijuana.

Innocent, etc.

Red Line shut as man commits suicide by subway train in Central Square

8 p.m. update: The MBTA says full service has resumed.

Shuttles in both directions following the incident shortly after 5 p.m.

Brett Loop reports from the first car of the train:

Heard some strange braking noises (e-brake) and then the driver yelling frantically into her CB and then yelling for help. People were trying to break into her cabin b/c we thought she was in trouble. The power went out and the doors were locked and finally she came out and said what happened. She was very upset. She said the man looked at the train and then just went in front. It was a very sad, solemn moment. I hope the train operator finds some counseling.

Krista Firkins reports from the scene (with photos):

Most T riders were left in the dark about the incident and were simply directed towards buses and shuttle services running out of central square, although most were packed. Buses also had a hard time getting in and out of the area with the congestion and traffic surrounding the scene. The square was flooded with Boston Police cruisers, Transit Police vehicles, unmarked police vehicles, ambulances, and fire trucks.

Andrew Phelps posted a photo of the FUBAR situation at Park Street as throngs waited for a shuttle bus.
