Leave it to somebody from Brookline to complain about Boston cops giving out Hoodsie cups

Cleary Squared points out a letter in the Herald from somebody who thinks the cops should be giving out yogurt instead.

Earlier:
Crime-fighting Hoodsie Cups to roll out on the streets of Boston.

Here's a thought: When the state rebuilds the Longfellow, narrow the roadway and give more space to walkers, bicyclists

ForLeft considers two alternates for a rebuilt Longfellow - one of which has only one traffic lane in each direction:

... I love the idea of cutting down on car traffic and [putting] benches on the walks. This is a chance to really change the urban environment. ...

Just you, me, and a thousand blades of grass

It's not the most-appealing section of the Rose Kennedy Greenway, that's for sure. It's to be expected, though, given its location near the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and South Station, and given that it includes what I believe to be a ventilation shaft / garage.

Not much happens here. During the hour I sat nearby, about ten to twenty people stopped by the sandwich truck. The only other occupants were hundreds of pigeons who flew in and out of the "park".

Oh, and a guy on a stand-up lawnmower looking terribly uncomfortable as he cut grass that didn't need cutting.

What could fill this space instead of grass? How about a croquet field?

How about a helipad?

Boston doesn't have enough twits

Twitter introduced location-specific Trending Topics to give you an idea on what the recent zeitgeist in your area was based on common terms that show up in the stream of all tweets from your area. These topics often cycle in a matter of hours as new news and discussion take over for older topics.

Unfortunately, Boston's Trending Topics have been seemingly stuck on a handful of terms from the early June NBA Finals (with a shout-out to the Tony Awards too) for quite a few weeks now. For those wondering why it's not functioning right for Boston (but fine everywhere else), Twitter posted this on their Help Center:

We are aware that many users may be experiencing stale local Trending Topics for Boston. This is due to a shortage of Tweets coming from the Boston area. The threshold number of Tweets required to refresh the local Trending Topics in Boston is not being reached, so we are unable to refresh the results with more current Trending Topics. We're sorry for the inconvenience, and we are working to mitigate the problem.

I guess it's just too hard for them to figure out how to set locality-specific thresholds.

Eat the Greenway

You learn something every day. Today we learn that some of the plantings along the Greenway are edible. Although one suspects the Greenway Conservancy would not take kindly to people making impromptu salads out of them.

Now it's the Blue Line

that's having major troubles due to a disabled train (or is it another broken wire?). From the T web page:

BLUE LINE DELAYS: Due to a disabled train in the Orient Heights area substitute bus service has replaced regular train service between Maverick and Suffolk Downs Stations. Airport, Wood Island and Orient Heights Stations are closed. Please expect significant delays and add an addtional 20-30 minutes to your afternoon trip while repairs are made. 8/2/2010 2:04 PM

We've secretly replaced the authentic Chinese food they usually serve with Folger's Crystals

Did you know that for the right price, Myers + Chang will let you take over part of the kitchen for the night and serve frozen dinners to unsuspecting diners? Granted, diners who were there for an event by a blog marketing network, which was marketing some line of frozen Chinese-ish entrees, as opposed to people just off the street.
