Eastie punks don't even leave cinderblocks behind when they steal your wheels

No wheels

Stopthepikehike took this photo this morning. At least in other neighborhoods, the thieves leave behind some substitute blocks or milk crates.

Blood is thicker than water - especially when it pours out of the gashes your cousin just gave you

Wicked Local Allston/Brighton reports two cousins from Attleboro, apparently up in Brighton for a bit of big-city excitement, got into an argument inside the Brighton Beer Garden on Market Street May 9 that ended when one punched the other in the face, sending him to the ground, which opened up some facial lacerations. The bar was cited for failing to call police.

Now the City Council can formally debate the firefighters contract

UPDATE: Mike Ross tweets the council WILL discuss the issue, along with an analysis of the award by an MIT managment professor brought in by the council, at today's meeting. Starts at noon in City Hall. No vote, however.

The Globe reports Mayor Menino yesterday filed his plan for paying for the contract awarded the firefighters by an arbitration panel - mostly through money the city had been saving plus money from the new meals tax. The council has 60 days to decide whether to reject the proposed contract.

Mayor's formal submittal to the council.

Firefighters, troopers rescue one person, recover one body from the Charles at the Mass. Ave. bridge

Story updated at 8 a.m.

The Boston Fire Department and State Police report two men jumped into the Charles River from the Mass. Ave. bridge around 11 p.m. last night.

Boston firefighters and state troopers arrived at the middle of the bridge in time to spot one person in the river "barely treading water." In a statement, State Police say:

State Police Lieutenant Paul Maloney and Trooper John Dwyer arrived on scene and heard screams coming from the water. Trooper Dwyer threw his cruiser's spare tire into the water to assist one of the men, whom they could hear, but not see.

After several attempts, one of the men grabbed onto the tire, and held onto it until a firefighter from Ladder 15 in a survival suit was lowered into the river. The firefighter then held him until a State Police boat arrived to take them to shore.

The man, a 27-year-old Dorchester resident, spent 20 minutes in the water and was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital, State Police said.

Around 12:15, divers from the Cambridge Fire Department recovered the body of the other man, a 28-year-old from Hyde Park.

NECN reports the men drove onto the bridge, then got out of their car before winding up in the river.

The woman who loved Dunkin' Donuts coffee drinks but couldn't stand to order one herself

Some Assembly Required reports that when he went into the Medford Square Dunkin' Donuts for some coffee on Saturday, he passed by a woman standing outside, seeming to give a coffee order on her cell phone. And when he got in line, he stood behind a woman repeating back the same order on her phone:

... So, Woman A was giving her drink order to Woman B over the phone, while standing outside on the sidewalk. I started to let myself think about why she might be doing this, instead of just coming inside, but I realized that way madness lied and let it go. ...

Local bloggers make shocking discoveries about family ties to the Sox

Beth reports meeting several Hall of Famers at a conference, including Pudge Fisk. And when she told her father:

... "Oh, yeah," said my dad, the guy who raised me, the guy who introduced me to the Red Sox, the guy I've been to and watched dozens of games with, and who had never, apparently, thought to tell me this -- "I used to share a locker with him up at the Nashua YMCA when me and Uncle Donny were playing racquetball back in the 70's."

I mean...you think you know a person. ...

Rebecca, meanwhile, discovers her cousin went to school with Jason Varitek, and that by turning down her aunt's offer to come stay with her in Florida after high school graduation, well:

... I was this close to possibly being the love of his life!
If only I took up my aunts offer....
*sigh*.

Downtown Crossing T stop evacuated as firefighters investigate odor

The Downtown Crossing T stop was evacuated briefly tonight as firefighters attempted to determine the source of odor in the concourse that left some people with irritated throats. The Red and Orange lines continued to operate but were bypassing Downtown Crossing. Shortly after 10 p.m., fire officials let the MBTA resume normal operations at the station.

The Boston Fire Department reports the odor may have been pepper spray. Six people were evaluated by EMTs but none needed a ride to the hospital, BFD says.

April 29:

Woman not very familar with West Roxbury gets arrested

Wicked Local West Roxbury reports a Dorchester woman was arrested at 2 a.m. on Friday after allegedly offering oral sex to a passing police sergeant at West Roxbury Parkway and Belgrade Avenue - a block from the E-5 police station. Maybe she'd already been there awhile and noticed the lack of traffic - she reportedly offered him $5 off her normal $20 price.
