In an article about the mess that is Cross Street (that plaza between the Greenway and the North End at Hanover that can't decide if it's a road or an outdoor seating area), the Globe reports the city councilor has been hit by a car twice there.

Meanwhile, Matt Conti says he was misquoted in the article and explains the issues along Cross Street and what he'd do about them.

Windows on Red Line trains shatter under hail of rocks in Dorchester

Channel 7 reports two Red Line trains, one in each direction, were hit by flying objects around 8:30 p.m. between Andrew and JFK/UMass.

Ian David tweets he was on the inbound train that was hit - and that it was by a rock:

The window spiderwebbed right next to a woman's head. Kids throwing rocks at trains should be stoned to death.

Red Line service was, of course, disrupted as police investigated the incidents.

Let the chips fall where they may: Local blog says Boston newspaper fails to give it credit

El Tour de Nacho, which is normally busy "eating its way through the nachos of Boston," says that a review of local nacho places failed to note the author got a fair amount of her info from the blog's authors.

The author of that article tells Grub Street that, yes, she originally worked with the blog, but then decided to "go a different route" with the piece. More from the Globe.

Boston to get new chief of advocacy and strategic investment

And about time, right? A Boston newspaper reports Marie. St. Fleur is leaving the legislature early (she'd already announced she wouldn't be running again) to take that job for Tom Menino.

Problems at Waltham dam mean large parts of the Charles in Newton could be a fetid mud flat this summer

UPDATE: The state Department of Conservation and Recreation will lower the level of the Charles at the dam by three feet Sunday night to allow for inspection of the dam's catwalk and flashboards, which are showing "significant deterioration of structural components." The dam itself is fine, the state says. The extra water will be diverted into the Mother Brook in Dedham. Read more.

Ian Lamont reports a particularly leaky Moody Street dam has let so much water downstream that mudflats are already appearing upstream. He quotes a report from longtime river watcher Michael St. Clair:

... I have been measuring the level of Charles waters above the Moody dam for years, and the water level is being lowered by about 2 inches per day. We are currently at mid summer [low] levels with no end in sight of slowing the rate of flow. This will result in large mud flats near areas like Norumbega recreation area in Auburndale and other areas of Newton that border the Charles. This is disruptive for recreation users, for wildlife, for reasons of smell and ugliness. ...

Two charged with attacking lesbian couple in JP face jail time if they try that again

The state Attorney General's office today announced a civil-rights injunction against Herbert Malloy and Hattie Boseman because of the way they allegedly attacked a pair of women they spotted walking down a Jamaica Plain street, holding hands and kissing, on Jan. 1 of this year.

This is in addition to any penalties they could get when they go on trial in West Roxbury District Court for the alleged attack.

According to the Attorney General's office:

Malloy and Boseman, seated inside a pickup truck, began screaming at the couple because they were holding hands and kissing. The complaint further alleges that Boseman left the truck and attacked one of the victims by hitting her in the face and head with a handbag. While one of the women was defending herself against Boseman, Malloy then got out of the truck and assaulted the other victim.

The order, granted by Suffolk Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Fahey, means the two could face up to 2 1/2 years in jail if found guilty of a similar crime - or up to 10 years in state prison if they injure somebody while violating their civil rights. In a statment, AG Martha Coakley said:

No one should have to fear for their personal safety because of his or her sexual orientation. Incidents of violence based on sexual orientation are unacceptable and can have a devastating emotional impact on victims.

Meanwhile, the two are due back in court on April 30 on two counts each of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with intent to intimidate and civil rights violations, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office says. A spokesman says the two victims had the presence of mind to take down the pickup's license-plate number as it drove away - which led investigator's to Malloy's home.

Innocent, etc.
