Boston cops refuse to let civilian flaggers on their turf

The Globe reports how Boston police officers allegedly threatened to arrest a civilian flagger in South Boston, after which the state replaced the worker with a BPD officer. Illustrated with a photo of the replacement police officer intently staring at his cell phone.

Jonas Prang agrees the Roxbury square is looking much better these days - except, he writes, for Alvah Kittredge's house:

... This poor derelict presides over the square from its address of 10 Linwood Street. It is a wreck and it continues to slide toward destruction right before our eyes. ... The Roxbury Action Program (RAP) - whose name adorns the front of the building - owned this house in the '70s, '80s, and '90s. Preoccupied elsewhere in the neighborhood, RAP sat on the house and allowed it to deteriorate like any feckless, absentee landlord. Since that time RAP has pulled up stakes from 10 Linwood Street and has conveyed the property (probably in 1999) to Alexander Leroy who is trustee of something called the Linwood St Realty Trust. ...

Can you believe it? Kenmore station officially finished

MBTA officials are scheduled for a ceremony at 8 this morning to commemorate the completion of the Kenmore station renovation - several years behind schedule, but now with snazzy new Red Sox murals.

Drew Phillips tweeted this morning:

Tons of new signage added overnight at Kenmore. Amazing how quickly the MBTA can finish a station once the GM schedules an event there.

Transit Police say they have racist attacker in custody

JourdetDaniel Jourdet, 52, of Lynn will be arraigned tomorrow on charges he's the guy captured on video yelling racial epithets at an MBTA worker before smashing him in the head on April 1 at the Copley Square stop on the Green Line.

MBTA Transit Police arrested Jourdet today on charges of violating the T worker's civil rights, assault and battery, trespassing and disorderly conduct. He's scheduled for arraignment tomorrow in Boston Municipal Court; in the meantime, he's being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.

A newspaper based in Boston noted today that "a neighborhood blog" in the North End broke the news of the death of neighborhood activist Bobby DeCristoforo in Cancun.
