Boston public schools might not start until Sept. 13

At least, that's what the Boston Teachers Union is proposing because of the proximity of Rosh Hashana and Labor Day, the Herald reports (Ed. Jewish note: Since when did BPS start caring about Jewish holidays?). BPS officials and City Councilor Steve Murphy want to deal with the issue by starting classes before Labor Day.

Police, citizens school two suspects after Roslindale break-in

Boston Police report arresting two guys on charges they broke into the Sumner Elementary School on Basile Street this afternoon.

Officers, alerted by a motion alarm in the school cafeteria, found "two figures shrouded in the darkness" on the third floor shortly before 4 p.m. The spirits quickly took off, but one tripped on the stairs inside the school and was arrested, while the other managed to make it to daylight - only to be tripped up by "concerned, cooperating citizens," who grabbed him and held him for police on Washington Street, police say.

Jean S. Altime, 19, of Hyde Park and Alfred Altine, 20, of Roslindale, were charged with breaking and entering in the daytime.

Innocent, etc.
