Allston/Brighton convenience stores being held up at alarming rate

District D-14 reports eight armed holdups of small convenience stores in the neighborhood since Nov. 1 - typically in the early evening.

Please be advised that stores should check their security systems, remove all obstructions from windows and counter tops and make sure that you are taking good security video, also make sure that you have measurement tape near the doorways in a location that can easily assess their height on video. Store owners should also be advised not to take any measures that would put them or their employees in danger.

Dec. 28:

I asked, "Don't you have a refrigerator?" and as I did the front door opened. A woman glared at me while holding a broom with the business end held high, in swat position. "Put the candy down and back away, Mister," she said. ...
